Drop down air intake

Drop down air intake
anybody run one like this . I bought my car with this on it it goes out over the rad and drops down to the bottom of the rad where it has the cone shaped filter. Just wondering if this is any better than the stock one that lies on top of the rad?

For your year Vette, it sounds like a home made version of the later models. it should work fine except you have to watch out for any water that might splash up towards the filter depending on how low it hangs. I'm running the almost stock air intake system except it has the cut lid with a K&N plus the BMAD that pushes air up towards the radiator and filter.

Some of the generals engineering should be left intact.

And not going over 175 isn't a good thing either not at optimal operating temp. You lose performance and mpg.

no reason for the shroud other than for air movement through the rad. I don,t have that problem. As you can see I don't have a problem keeping my engine cool. This is a common practice to remove the shroud and put in aluminium rad with electric fans. As far as temperature is concerned I would rather run my engine at 175 than 205 -220.
Engine bay looks much better IMO without the shroud.

From what I can see here, you may be losing some mpgs. I don't see the hose for the charcoal canister that goes into the line for the PVC valve because someone put aftermarket valve covers.
Also, if your car does not go passed 175 degrees, if it drops under 160 degrees I believe, you will lose performance and gas mileage as you will be in and out of open loop. You may also be quite the pollution machine also. You probably have a 160 thermostat.
