Radar Detectors

No doubt. That's why I run the cruise control.
But I have been pulled over for speeding 3 times in my superduty pickup and wasn't speeding at all. That's why I have dual gps recorders in that thing to prove I'm not speeding. I like the radar detector so I can make sure how fast I'm going if I get pulled over. Weird but for some reason that truck makes radar guns read to fast.
Never have had anything else Ive owned do that and at over 200 vehicles in my lifetime that's a wide selection to go against.
We even tested it with a sheriffs department car's radar. Showed 10 mph over one pass and 20 another. No clue why and they have no clue either.

Yes this may be true but speed is a lot like power. We all have have a different definition of "enough" and "too much". I fail to see why, with a C7 base HP of 450 there is a need for the 650HP Z06. Yet if I had the bucks I'd sure have one. Also, with a speed limit of 70mph there is little to be gained by driving 85. I guess we're all different.

Here's a couple of observations and items I've learned over the years. 1/First off, we are all part time drivers with limited resources. We buy devices of questionable quality with unreliable results. LEO's are full time professionals who are schooled in enforcing the law. We plop our $500 toy on the dashboard and think we will outsmart the law. You can do your own math. 2/ The devices used by law enforcement are being upgraded constantly while we get device updates only afterward. 3/We are laid out on the open road driving down the center for all to see. They can hide anywhere. 4/Using anti radar and lidar devices may be in violation of FCC laws. You don't want to mess with the Feds. Also I've read of charges of law evasion and legal intervention if you use anything to defeat the radar/laser device. 5/It is possible for a trained law officer to issue a ticker based on his professional opinion. While it is most likely that it will be tossed out of court you will have to show up at whatever expense that may be. While there are arguements for each of these statements its obvious that in front of the judge you stand alone. Personally I try to keep the speed within a reasonable limit, stay at the limit in areas most likely to be patrolled, at the appropriate times. For example around here the most likely place to get tagged is Sunday morning on the interstate. True it seems like a safe time to speed but apparently the cops feel that way to. I use a simple, old X,K band radad detector since most of the law enforcement still uses older, cheaper equipment. Especially in smaller towns. If its laser or instant on radar you're screwed. Good luck, and drive safe.
Speaking for what's probably a significant group of Forum members: speed is life; speed is fun and this is one of the best games in town! Their equipment improves... our equipment improves. Some of us have gone decades without tickets and have enjoyed that much more fun because we get to our destinations quicker. I'm not advocating "crazy." I'm simply suggesting that speed limits are, for the most part, revenue generators and, some of us choose to opt out. C'mon, you drive a Corvette don't you? If you truly don't exceed the posted limit, I humbly suggest you're in the wrong car.

LOL its actually a problem with them clocking the truck. The gps shows the trucks speedometer dead on. One the cops used his cell phones gps too when I was going thru all that stuff in the past. We never did figure out why it does it. The guy that comes up from Montgomery to calibrate the radar guns argued that it was impossible till he got to see it in action

Your truck is bucking the laws of physics! What kind of truck? Can you post a pic?

I've noticed in the last several months that about every other semi-trailer truck puts out a radar signature that extends to their front about a quarter mile. I guess it's collision avoidance systems at work, but it sure is annoying....and almost, as has been said, renders the radar detector useless.

I have the same issue with my V1....but it's not falsing; it's getting a signal and telling me it's getting a signal. It is then up to me to determine where that signal is coming from.

Where I live (west, central Florida), I can ignore X band, pay a little attention to K band and become a hawk when Ka band sounds off!

I don't want to go that high until I study up about them a little more. At first I thought the v1 was some jc whitney piece of junk that I would just throw away if I didn't like it, but that is not the case at all. Apparently the Valentine products are pretty highly regarded, and new ones are over 500 bucks. Don't wait for me if someone else wants it, ill probably study the subject for another 4-5 days before I make a decision.

I purchased an Escort Passport MAX back in 2013. They have some new versions ever since it came out, but let me tell you, this has saved my *** so many times.
It has Escort Live, where you can connect to your phone and other users are able to report where cops have been sighted, (for those pesky radar flashers and laser users). Also has Defender Database, that tells me where the red light cameras and speed trap cameras are located. And I purchased a 3 year warranty with it as well.
Also, it has a GPS feature that allows it to block out a radar signal if you have passed it 3 times in the same location. This makes false alarms very infrequent.
I've had this thing go off about 2 miles away from the cop. I highly recommend this radar detector, and probably the newer version as well I would recommend.

Did you install everything yourself ?? If not, what did it cost to have it done ? If so how much of a pain was it ? Did you have to remove the bumper covers ?

Bingo. This is why I want a radar detector. Except my experience in court (besides the inconvenience) was that the officer has 51% credibility.
