Harness Bar for 1986 Corvette Coupe?
Hey, I have been looking all over to get a harness bar for my Vette but have no luck. The only ones I have found though were over $600, and that is way out of my budget.
I want the harness bar so I could put some racing seat belts for when I get racing seats.
I saw some universal harness bars such as the Cipher and NRG Innovations bars, but I am not sure which size I would get anyway, but they do come in 47" to 51".
Would it just be cheaper to get a harness bar custom made?
All help is appreciated, thanks.

Aardwolf made his own for his '86 very cheap in a thread years back. They sell for 150-250 used.
his build... The way I would do it. I bought a piece and it's heavy, Aardwolf had the right idea here.

Get an Arizona Speed & Marine bar if you can I think they are the best ones out there. Sold mine a few months ago for $200 when I put my roll bar in.

do you have any fabrication ability (or know someone who has) ?
if you have more time than money you can make one,
I made my bar for $20 in steel and $80 for a professional tig weld.
its strength is in the angled uprights into the seatbelt locating points,
I do get concerned when I see products such as the vetteworksonline bar which does not comply with the rules of any governing body in relation to harness over the shoulder placement.

I hope you changed your seats in your C4. If you using the harness bar and 5/6 point harness with the stock seats in just about ANY Corvette, your doing it wrong. In fact that is probably more dangerous than the stock 3 point belts. Improperly mounted harnesses and mounts are more dangerous than the stock belts.
You cannot go out around the head rests with the belts that is WRONG and unsafe. I see it all the time and its stupid, just plain stupid. Better off with OEM with the stock seats.

Your correct in that their harness bar is not properly positioned in the car.

The harness is crossed over at the rear of the seat and I have made metal brackets for the sides of the seats to ensure the belts cant go anywhere, except stay over my shoulders.
It works well and passes tech inspection.

I wanted to keep the stock seats and retain the use of the seatbelts for street use, and the harness bar makes a great fire extinguisher holder too !

I bought a Sparco harness bar a couple years ago for my '87 but I did a little searching and haven't found if they are still available. This bar is a U-shape and has two support bars used to adjust the bar height in the car.
There are two different widths for C4 harness bars that attach at the OEM shoulder belt attaching points. Don't remember offhand what the different measurements are (may be the dimensions the OP listed), but if you measure between the shoulder harness attaching points, that will give you a close enough measurement to insure you won't get a harness for later year C4's.
