Re: Best tire/wheel sizes for 88 (radhunter)
Since I have the Z-52 option I'm thinking of stepping up from my current 275/40-17 GY Eagles to 285/40/17s.
Since I drag race I don't want to lose any sidewall but would like a little more rubber on the road. And they would be 1% taller; that reduction in torque conbined with the wider foot print should provide a little more consistent hookup.

No question. The new Goodyear F-1 GSD3 (i think it's GSD3). A little pricey but, from what I hear they are the best.
If you are sticking with stock wheels 275/40/17 or 285/40/17. If you get 11' wheels for the rear you can go with 315/35/17 for the rear.
I went with Kumho 712's. I'm on a budget.
Mike.

Re: Best tire/wheel sizes for 88 (Midnite 88)
Will 11" 17's work OK on the rear? Any downside?
What's recommended for front for a mostly road car? :auto: :auto:

9.5x11 all around would be the best setup. You can run either 275/40 or 285/40 tires. Keep them the same size and you can rotate the tires for best wear. The 11x17 will work in the back if you get the GS offset so the tires won't stick out too far. 315/35 tires are the best bet for the 11" wheels but the brand selection is getting pretty slim.
There's a wide variety of 275/40 tires available (check out the Tire Rack for some good deals). For street use, the Kuhmo 712's are an excellent choice for a street tire. The Kuhmo Escta MX is a really nice sticky tire for street autocross and the occasional track day. If it's your daily driver, you should consider weather conditions in tire selection. If you get bad winter weather( rain, snow, etc) a sticky dry conditions tire may not work the best.
I kept the 16" wheels and tires from my 87 and they go back on in the rainy season and my 17" setup with Escta MX are for the dry days and autocross/track days.

Thanks for the info. I'm currently in New Mexico. Rain and snow are mythical events that we hear about from time to time on TV.
