Default LT1 crank hub vs. LT4 crank hub?

What's the difference between these hubs ? Can a LT1 hub be modified to fit an LT4 ? Is the difference in length because of the reluctor ring?

Default May be the year

Hello Jthvette,

I show the hubs being the same for 96 Lt1 &Lt4 under pt.#12550097.
However hubs for 92-95 Lt1 being pt.# 12553250. I would say the difference is for the OBD-II for 96 with the crank position sensor reluctor ring which calls for a longer key to engage the crank sensor without interacting with the hub.

Hope this helps,
Coops

Yes you can use the LT1 hub on the LT4, but you would have to chuck it up on a lathe to shorten the hub an demension equal to the thickness of the 96 crank sensor reluctor ring. It would be cheaper to buy a new LT4 hub

ATI just bought one both pieces $485.00 Looks great and I could have bought a second roller cam and lifters for that much.

That is no problem. I have access to a lathe. The engine that I'm building was not a LT4 or a '96 - '97 LT1, which have the crank trigger sensor. I have a standard LT1 hub. I didn't want to buy another hub, if the one I have can be modified. In addition to this ,I need a LT4 crank and cam timing gears. I have the single roller chain. I was hoping a forum member might have some for sale?
Thanks!
