Where to hard-wire radar detector???
I am planning on hard-wiring the passport 8500 today. I already have the hard-wire kit from passport, and the detector itself is mounted on the rear view mirror screw. Where can I run the wire to hard wire it inside the car if possible, and what fuse would work the best? I would like it to have power only when the ignition is in the run position. Thanks.

I have a 94. My mirrors always have power. I found this out the hard way when I girl I took to dinner turned on the light to check her make-up but left it on. Well, it's cold now so the Vette doesn't go out too much and after three times of having to jump the battery to get it started only to go dead and be replaced by an Optima did I figure it out. Check yours out before wiring up. I ran mine through the trim over the mirrors, down the a pillar into the fuse box and into the stereo (I think)
By the way, I see you are from Cincy, I am only 12 miles from you over in Independence, KY.

Drop the header trim piece and determine which wire goes to the non-dimmer mirror light. Use that wire for power and a screw for ground. The detector wire can be snaked up into the header trim next to the mirror wire for a very stealth installation that is on/off with ignition.

I need to correct myself. My earlier post declared my mirror lights do not operate without ignition on, I descovered I was wrong. The previous owner HARDWIRED the mirror light. Looks like the perfect place to wire in a laser detector. Sorry.
