This will be the easiest swap.
I have heard about using T56s from some certain year LS1 F-bodies too but there will be custom fab most likely required with that.

richmon gear sells a drop in six speed for your application. i don't think there's anything cheaper or better than the 4 + 3 you have right now. the keiselr and richmond are kind of pricey, but their reputations are iron clad.

What part of the tranny went TU?? The front (4-speed) part is just a regular Borg-Warner Super T-10 and those are not too difficult to rebuild. If it was the OD portion, you can go here to find out about rebuilding the OD portion. You should also check the C4 PArts for Sale section to look for the 4+3 trannies or you can find them on eBay.
The 4+3 is a good trans and can handle a fair amount of HP and torque. As mentioned, either the Kiesler or Richmond Gear trannies will work but expect to spend a few grand on either.
The Richmond Gear 6-speed that is specific for Corvette is a little over $3200 in the Summit Racing catalog It comes with a shifter but requires some cutting of the car to get installed. This is not geared as evenly as a factory 4-speed. 1st is 3.28, 2nd is 2.13, 3rd is 1.57, 4th is 1.23, 5th is 1.00, and 6th is an OD of .76

when i bought the car the unit was "supposed" to be rebuilt well it was but apparently they didnt do a good job. reverse idler is junk along with the counter shaft, 1st gear, 1st slider, the case has heavy damage, and the drum in the od unit has wore the case so its unrebuildable.

Do yourself a favor, pull it and replace it. do it once - do it right - If you try rebuilding that OD unit - chances are you'll be doing it again in a year or 2. Look to the Keisler or the richmond.
I went with the Keisler - best thing I ever did to my vette. Lots of guys try to do it cheaper by cobbling together a 6 speed and stuff - but it typically ends up more costly - and alot of extra labor - do a search on Central Coasters trials and tribulations of his tranny change.

Everything I've read on here says that Richmond has great customer service and unreliable transmissions.
I went with the ZF, althought if I had to do it all over again, I'd buy the Keisler.
