Default Relay location questions

I need to know where relays 14078915 and 10032081 mount. I know they are suposed to be either by the battery or near the wiper motor but I can't find the mounting points for them.

thanks,

Brian

Check whether the info about relay placement in these threads helps.
You'll have to scroll a bit. Your's is an '85, IIRC?

Thanks guys my car is a '85, but the wiring (all wiring in the car) is from a '86. The engine is a '88.

I believe 14078915 is fuel pump and 10032081 appears to be cooling fan. I have the relay near the wiper motor mounted, and another on the inside of the rear wheel well housing but I can't find where these two go. IIRC they mount behind the battery but I can't find the holes or bracket where they mount.

I'm finishing up the odds and ends of the installation of the '86 harness in the car so I'm sure I'll have a few odd electrical questions over the course of the next week.

Thanks,

The fuel pump relay is mounted on the firewall by the brake booster. If you have a manual trans, there should be two of these there. They are the same relay. One for the fuel pump and one for the overdrive.

The cooling fan relay is on the driver's side wheel well almost below the brake master cylinder. This is the case in both 85 and 86.

Hope this helps.

OK this one I have in place, so the relay I thought was the fuel pump relay must be something else.

I will check closer below the brake booster. I did not investigate that area. Tomorrow I will take a pic of the relays and post it. A pic is worth a thousand posts...

thanks for the help.

Thanks for the offer while you have your camera out a pic of the wires leading to the starter solenoid would also help me out a great deal. I'm 90% sure I have them straightened out but I want to be 100% sure as a screw up there could result in an unfused problem.

Interestingly enough between the '85 car, '86 harness and '88 engine the only connector compatability issue I've run into is the oil pressure switch on the rear of the engine by the distributor. Other than that everything seems to have plugged in and played together quite nicely. Luckely for me it's a $9.00 sensor.

Thanks again for the help,

Any chance that you plan to install a heated 02 sensor? If you are,
then now is as good a time as any to add a provision for a switched
12VDC source for the heater.

The Aux Fan relay that mounts on the rear of the driver's wheel tub
is frequently mentioned. You can splice into the harness (blue wire
to the 'D' terminal of the relay connector). Or you can modify the
relay.

Next to booster, there are 2 relays on 4+3 cars with same part number. In front is the 4+3 overdrive relay. closer to the firewall is the fuel pump relay. Automatics just have the one fp relay.

main fan relay is inside the driversside fender liner, in front and below the master cylinder.

Cooling Fan relay.

Fuel Pump relay. (Mine's an auto.)

Starter wires

The terminal in the red circle remains unused.
The wire with the arrow is shown to be purple in the shop manual, but mine is not. Dont' know why. It goes to the small inner terminal circled in green. The other wire and the fat black wire both go together on the large terminal with the big nut.

Thanks guys for all the help, and thanks 86PACER for the pics they really help.

The relays in the pic's 86PACER posted I have installed, there are two more relays I am not sure where they go. I am posting pic's below:

I am pretty sure by the length of the wires that they would mount behind the battery but I can't find the appropriate mounting holes anywhere in the firewall or adjoining areas. Maby there is a bracket I'm missing?

Anyway if anyone knows what these relays are or where they mount I would appreciate it!

thanks again,

The 1003x relay is for the auxiliary fan. It mounts to the firewall behind the battery. Not sure about the other relay. I thought only the fuel pump and overdrive had that part number.

Um... how come the wiring on yours doesn't match mine? Both fan relays on mine have the same wire colors going to them, and definitely a green/white which is the switched ground signal.

Found it! there were holes there for a relay, so I mounted 1003X there.

One down one to go!

In your profile it says your car is a '85? Mine has a '86 harness. That would explain why there is a difference.

While we're on the subject I can't find the mounting location for this either:

I'm sure this is a result of my car being a '85 and the wiring being an '86. That is why I can't find the mounting holes I am looking for. I would however like to get things mounted in their proper locations for a '86 car.

Thanks again,
