86 Eating Serpentine Belts
Every couple of thousand miles or so my the serpentine belt in my 86 self destructs. The belt tensioner has maybe 15k miles on it and appears to be in good shape. The belt is riding on the extreme rearward portion of the tensioner pulley. As the problem surfaced after I installed new AFR heads, I'm wondering if the AC compressor is now sitting too far rearward causing the belt to ride too far back on the tensioner pulley. It's the rear edge of the belt thats giving me trouble.
Should I just try a new tensioner, or could I shim the AC compresseor forward a bit? As measured with a straight edge, all the other pulleys appear to be properly alligned.
