Engines require spark and spark at the right time, fuel, air, (and in the correct ratio) to start and run. Check with a timing light for spark timing and check that the spark on a pulled plug wire will jump easily 1/2 inch. Engines won't start on a weak spark. When it won't start, measure the fuel pressure and observe the time it takes to lose pressure with the ign off. If it falls rapidly, you have leaky injectors which cause a too rich mixture to start.
