Can I install shorty headers that are made to fit a LT1 on a L98? It's got the ZZ4 heads with angled plugs.

Why shorties? There's really no performance gain to be had at all. If you want cheap hedman headers on summitracing are $150 for a set. They're at least full length headers.

OK, My next question is: The shortie headers that I ordered have a carb #. I assume that if I install them on my 88 they will be legal in California. I would like to get a set of Long Tube headers but I will never get past the smog police. I guess I will need to have an exhaust pro custom make my front Y pipe. Should I do a H pipe before the high flow cat? The exhaust will be 2 1/2 inch all the way to the race mufflers. I plan to have them Jet Hot coated. I think this is the best I can do and still be legal here in California. here they are http://www.pacesetterexhaust.com/corvette.php They are at the bottom of the page. Think it will work?

Yeah, Or a crossover pipe. Lingenfelter suggested it in his book on building chevy small blocks. He claims it will increase torque. I just want to maximize my exhaust but keep it California legal. I have seen pics on this forum that show the insides of a stock L98 header. They are very restrictive. My exhaust is 2 1/2 inch mandrel bent with a high flow cat and Magnaflow race muffler. I need to open it up from the headers to the cat. I think I can free up a few HP.

I know an "H" or balance tube is supposed to even out exhaust flow in a true dual system. I just have never seen that in a front "Y" pipe that is going into a commen pipe (the main CAT) very soon anyway. Interesting, but I don't see how it will increase horsepower.
