Coolant sealant tabs?
In my factory service manual, it says to install some sealant tabs in the surge tank after a coolant change (LT1 only). Can anyone tell me what they are for? I assumed corrosion prevention but I don't want that stuff running around my cooling system for no reason. I have no need for "stop leak" gunk.

Good question! When I got my cylinder heads back from Advanced Induction, they included a packet of those tabs. They remind me of those dissolving fish feeder pellets for aquariums.
I'm putting everything back together very carefully and clean, so I also don't want random sh*t floating around in the coolant! I'll have to give Ron at AI a call to see what's up with these things...

Dont use them...keep your coolant mix balanced and you should have no corrosion problems.Them pellets look like they could plug up a heater core or a rad somewhat.

Their purpose was to address porosity issues with the aluminum head castings. I don't think they are recommended anymore, but I don't know if it's an official GM bulletin or internet myth.
Interesting thing is that if you read the ingredients it sounds like a good curry recipe.

They were originally made for teh Cadillac 4.1's because of teh aluminum head/cast iron block problems of
sealing because of poorly designed gaskets and inferior castings. Teh sealing tabs were, and are very cheap
insurance. Personally, while I sell them everyday, I would never use them....a little Water Wetter, and regular
green coolant, and everything is good!
