Default 1993 Opti-Spark Problem

Anyone had this problem before...I took my 93 in to have a radiator hose replaced and when I went to pick up the car, it was mis-firing and running badly...I refused to take the care and asked that the service manager take a look at it...He ran a diognistic and said that it appears the repair guy may have leaked some coolent in the distributer...he would have to another guy look at it in the morning...he felt it may have been the service shops issue...Service manager informs me the next day that it was not the service shop issue and it may be a coincidence but this happens all the time...My opti-spark needs replace and all the plug wires...he thinks the water pump is ok, but will let me know after he opens it up...one thing to point out, the car has a slight leak and the service manager indicated that over time this may have caused the opti-spark to go bad...He want $1900 for the whole thing, but is willing to give me a discount @ $1500 since I am a regular customer...Need help...these guys screwing me..

They leak anti-freeze all over your opti and want you to pay for it? That is outrageous!

*edit* I missed the part about your possible leak, but it sure seems like too much of a coincidence to me.

It's not a coincidence. Depending on which hose they replaced, coolant is going to leak out and they should take precautions against the optispark getting soaked. At the very least I would make them eat the labor and only pay for parts. That's more than fair.

You can change the opti and water pump yourself for ~$500.
