K guys I'm looking for a gear change myself, I just put a fresh 355 with 10-1 comp 555 lift cam, ported aluminum L-98 heads, roller rockers, single plain intake, 750 holley carb, an 2500 stall but flash almost 3.
Problem: I was planning on just hoping out on the street an just nailing it an blowing the tires off as long as i wanted but seems like the car is little sluggish an doesn't spin at all does pull decent. btw its a 86 a/t but came with the aluminum heads, This cars is mostly street an strip toy.. NOt worried about gas

in the f/s there is a whole rearend with 3.73 for 450! I just paid 430 for gears and rebuild install kit. another 5-550 for gears installed in pumpkin if I pull the pumpkinout and take it in. OR else more again!
it is like 1200 for a shop to do your rearend! up to you!

If the gearset is installed properly it should not make a sound, this is why this job is best left to an experienced professional.

I have heard that non stock gears will have a noise of a sort! some boil them all sorts of lil tricks to try to quiet them, but since people have been doing gears in c4's the overall concensus is there will be a noise.

Default 3.07 gear ratio in a 1984 Corvette

I checked my RPO codes on my 1984 Corvette - 52000 miles and it says it has a 3.07 gear ratio I used to own a1998 and I know that the 1984 is much slower. is 3.07 a good gear ratio to have in a 84 Corvette? from what I hear it's better than 2.59 I just wanted to be a little bit closer to the 1998 Corvette that I used to own in performance however everything else about this 84 is much better just seems more solid than my C5 I used to own

3.07 is probably just fin for that car. If you want "more", then the place to look would be converter, ported intake, tuning, and exhaust from the head to the tip.

After all that, then more gear would help.

All 84's came with the 3:07. I went from the 2:59 to 3:07 in my 86 and it is a noticeable difference. Gets up to speed a little faster. The difference between those cars isn't the axle ratio it's the horsepower.

Thanks for the info. Was that a special option or part of a package?

WVZR can probably give much better detail than I can, but I think it came with the late Z51 cars.

With slightly more than 400 units mentioned I believe it was maybe just an "oversight" in the marketing brochures/spec sheets for the car. Part of a package? I don't believe OR I should say I've never seen it mentioned.

If most of the NEW '84 buyers knew of the ratio option I'd have thought there would have been many "thousands" of units.

I don't know that CFI-EFI's car actually was a 3.31 (GW4) but I certainly do miss the guy. Entertaining he was!! YES TOM RIP CFI-EFI !!!!

I ordered my 84 with the 3.31 option. I believe I still have the thing up in the attic. Unfortunately the 84s came with D36 rears.
