Default Not a Y-body, but still an interesting post about Vortec heads and 305 TPI

FYI = Dynoed my 305 Vortec & new times

Yesterday I dynoed my 305 with the vortec heads and recorded a best pull of 239.5 RWHP @ 4700 RPM and 299.7 RWTQ at 3700 RPM. This is approximately equal to 280 flywheel HP and 350 FT/LBS of torque at the flywheel. I believe there is more HP in this combination because my air/fuel ratio went from 13:1 all the way down to 11.5:1 at max power. The 11.5:1 air fuel ratio is way rich and is lowering the max power reading. I was using the stock chip and stock 19 LB injectors lowered to 40 PSI when I recorded the highest numbers. I am going to have to get the chip reprogrammed to get all of the avialable power out of this combination.

Then today I went to the drag strip and recorded a new best ET of 13.53 at 100.92 MPH with street tires and good low wind conditions. I am hoping for 13.40's in the future.

Best ET street tires 13.53
Best 60 FT street tires 1.903
Best MPH street tires 100.92
RWHP 239.5 = approx 280 flywheel
RWTQ 299.7 = approx 350 flywheel

I saw someone doing that over on camaroz28.com. Was that you? Looks like some awfully good results. Keep up the good work.

GM produced a few 1LE firebirds in 1991.They were just 5.0 liter TPI engines with 5 speeds. I tried to find info on the specifics but no luck. This car is as fast as a L98 vette, I mean 13.7 1/4 mile all original down to the plastic on the seats 4000 miles on it. I always wondered what components on that would benefit a vette. Ill have to ask in F-body forum. :)

If you wanted a manual in a 3rd gen F-body you had to get the 5.0 or smaller, 5.7 got auto only. Of course these were not vortec but the 305 tpi wasn't bad.
