Default Is the oil pan specific to Y-Bodys?

I'm dropping in an L05 350 out of a '92 GMC into my '84 Corvette. Is the oil pan specific to the Corvette? I was going to get a replacement pan but I don't see one listed in Summit or Jegs.

Thanks for any help with this!

Later,

Lee

Yes, because of difference in the front frame braces, oil pans for our vettes are unique. There are also ground clearance issues.

OTOH, you can swap L98 and LT1 pans (with consideration to plugging or using the sensor "bung" in LT1 pans.

Check ebay and/or 4-sale forums.

I thought that was the case but odd that I did not see stock replacement pans listed. Okay, thanks a bunch.

Needin' a pan,

Some small blocks have the oil dipstick tube on the driver's side, so the pans for those engines are different. I found this out when I was buying oil pan gaskets...

Cliff, mine is a passenger-side one so I now to stick with that. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks gents,

Lee

The TBI 5.7L truck pan will fit in your 84 fine. It's just a regular GM oil pan. The same one they use on most all other GM vehicles from that era. It's only 7.25" to 7.5" deep at the sump which poses no ground clearance problems.

I'm using a 96 truck pan in my 86. I think the pan you have will work.

Sounds like I need to apologize...I thought all non-Y-body pans would be too deep.

Thanks for the info, folks! That would be a REAL money saver if I can just use the truck TB pan! DWDsmoke did you have any clearance/fit issues at all?

Thanks,

Lee

I had no issues at all with the truck pan. The header flanges will hit before the pan does. I've dropped the pan with the engine installed with no problems. Just have to rotate the crank so the counter weights clear.

Okay, I will give things a whirl then! Thanks a big bunch...I really don't have it for a new oil pan in my budget so this is a big help.

Grateful,

Lee
