Default What's the best gears for '85 manual?

Hi, I've been thinking about getting 3.73s for my 85 manual 4+3, and I just had a few questions. Let me add though that I currently have 3.07.

First, what gear ratio do you think is best for this car?

Second, how much gas mileage should I expect to lose with 3.73?

Third, how many miles off of my top speed with 3.73?

Fourth, how much time off of the 1/4 mile with 3.73?

And lastly, will this product fit my car? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-741001

Thanks a lot! I appreciate any responses!

The least expensive change might be the purchase of an assembled 3.45 from a car that's already to go. You could resell your 3.07 that should be a D44 to recover most of that purchase. It would be foolish to do it any other way - very foolish. It would also be a very comfortable gear for the car also.

The gear from Summit is a "NO FIT" NO WAY!!!!

Do a search for "Yukon Ring and Pinion gear sets" The company is called Randy's Ring and Pinion. They have a variety of gear sets and related installl items for a ratio change. They have 3.45's, 3.73's and 4.11 sets for your '85 D44 rear end. Each ring and pinion set is available as either a standard replacement or a performance set. Prices will be higher than Summit but Yukon is a good product. They also have Spicer/Dana gear sets.
