Default 1985 C4 radio - would this be OK?

Hi everybody,

I need to get a OEM radio for our '85. Unfortunately someone replaced all speakers with custom stuff. Do you guys think this unit would be OK?

Depends on what they did when they upgraded everything. Is there a delco bose head unit in there now or something else?

I'm sure a stock Bose head unit won't work with aftermarket speakers. Bose has amps at each speaker.
Early cars also have common ground speaker wiring. More than likely it was changed when the speakers were changed.
I'd be surprised if the wiring plugs in the dash aren't all cut up.
If the sound is all muddy you might check the speaker wiring if they are hooked up common ground they'll sound like junk.

If you don't have the original amps (in good working condition) you're in for considerable additional work and expense.

I don't have any Bose stuff right now. The preowner tossed all and got passive speakers with a modern radio.

Seller says he can convert the radio to work with 4-Ohm passive speakers:
I CAN CONVERT THE STEREO TO PLAY NORMALLY IN CARS WITHOUT THE BOSE SYSTEM
Can it be true? I checked with Doctor Don if they can do such a conversion and the answer is yes. So if two persons state it is possible it should be. The only question is how do they do it? I guess there is not many space in the radio for getting a modern amp in ...

Have you tried a Corvette recycling yard? Last time I was at Vette2Vette he had a shelf full of Bose speakers. He tests that they work and guarantees that they do.

I have the stock radio and all speakers from my '84; untouched and original. It all worked when removed and has been stored for 15 years or so. If it were me, I'd have a pro check it out before installing, as capacitors, especially, age with the calendar, not just use.

The only issue is one rear box is hacked up some, but I even have the foam boots that slide into the rear cavities.

Plus, I am not greedy if you wish to return to stock!
