What is a good EFI or TPI intake replacement for the L98. I was looking at Edelbrock's TPI upgrade or the PRO FLO XT EFI or Holley/ Weiend Stealth Ram intakes, anyone using these? Do I have to cut or replace with a cowl hood, if so where do I get one?

Need further details about your plans for the 388, what the car has now, what year, what transmission, what your goals are in terms of power/numbers, etc.

It can be done with a 388 NA. It would be easier to do with a 396+ like I have done. You will need a stoutly built bottom end. You will need AFR 190 or larger heads, a ported SuperRam, new injectors, headers and exhaust work, a large camshaft (230/230+ ballpark), then custom tuning to get this to work. An alternative would be to go with the Miniram or other single plane intake. You may need to upgrade the fuel pump depending on the final combination.
You will then need to plan to replace the 700r4. It will not last long behind this amount of torque. Expect at least $2000-3000 depending on how you want to go with that, who does it, shipping costs, etc.
If you intend to race it, then you will need to change the D36 rear to a D44. Gear choice will vary depending on which intake manifold you choose, but you won't need much with that power.
My combination makes these power levels but she's temperamental in cold weather and getting the idle sorted out was a challenge.

I'm also upgradering to a d44 rearend and swapping out the 4l60 with a stronger transmission.
It depends if you want power above 5500-6000 rpm, then you should look at something like the miniram.

The pro flow is an excellent design that could support your hp goals and still fit under your hood.

Where you want it to make the power (i.e., RPM) will push you towards one intake or another, but the highest power levels will require portwork on just about anything but the single plane.
I think a MR is suited to a Manual car because it wants the RPMs, but with a bigger engine underneath it'll be fine.

I am, just off 72. I'm not in any groups because I wasn't comfortable showing the car to anyone until it was reasonably done.

Will my L98 heads do if worked and ported and rebuilt with higher end products, springs retainers and such? Or can suggest heads? I've seen all the other suggestions.
My car is shabby right now, too. But I went ahead and joined Vets With Vettes for $10 lifetime.. Why not? Ya Know?

Has anyone tried something like this? This was pretty standard back in the World Challenge days. I just wonder what this modification actually does to your power curve.
I think SLP made a commercial version of this.

Keep in mind, this mod is basically trying to make a TPI "act" more like a short runner intake (by shortening the runners), so you trade some of that legendayr "TPI Tork monster" for HP and a usable rev range. Probably not a practical mod for those who do not need to worry about CA visual emissions testing, when there are a plethora of intakes that will bolt on and get it done.

You will need AFR 190-195-200cc sizes to get up there, or a comparably sized head.
