...... Not all oil filters are created equal ... look for one with the top gasket as close to the outer edge of the filter as possible ... you might get lucky .......

Just a swag here, but what about using a remote filter adapter?

I thought about trying to find a filtrer with a wider seal too. And the remote oil filter but I dont understand it all do they have to seal to that area or not?

You might try just getting it welded and then ground to shape.

All in all though, that is a strange "break", looks like someone used something to pry the filter off ????

cant be fixed! Your only 4 hours away. I can come over and tow it out of your driveway for free. Course I will also need the title. Since your a forum member, I wont charge you for getting rid of your car. Just kidding, advice already given from others folks is good advice.

It is too difficult to weld cast iron without other issues...like cracking.

Agent 86 has the solution. Be sure to clean this area really well before using the JB Weld.

....... Yes , They do ... you will still need to look for one that has the seal as close to the outer perimeter as possible ... try a Wix or Napa Gold ......

Maybe you could get a big oring that will fit in the channel between the seal and the rim of the filter

Was it leaking before you found this? (shakes head in bewilderment). The car gods, they do have a sense of humor.

Is it causing an issue? I'd think most filters would cover that and not leak.

I really wish I knew how this happened probably before I bought the car.

After changing oil and filter the first time after I bought the car, I noticed some smoking I thought probably just blow by.

Later I noticed a few spots on the ground where I park. I had someone look it over I knew it was somewhere around the oil filter but I couldnt tell exactly where.

He tracked it down, and told me it was a `chunk` out there. I thought he was exaggerating. If you put the oil filter on real tight to smash the seal out it doesnt drip but will still smoke off the exhaust from under the car.

This is why I do everything I can myself and watch like a hawk whenever I have someone else do things on my cars.

I wonder if the previous owner had trouble getting the old filter off and did the screw driver in to the filter thing to get it off.

I had a car some years ago that the filter just collapsed when trying to get it off with the oil wrench and I basically had to break it up in pieces to get it out.

looks like someone hammered a screw driver into the oil filter and hit the side.
