With the 86 supercharged I did end up trying a 52mm on as a possible fix to air fuel ratio problem I was having at wot. But that turned out the be the air filter housing. I ended up going back to the stock tb. I didn't dyno it but I couldn't really tell any different with and without the 52mm one. 1/4 and 0-60 didn't change between them to any noticeable amounts.

In my extreme case, since no one sane would run it without a filter, there was a 4 HP difference between stock cut out vs no filter and 2 HP loss with K&N open element filter. It probably won't be noticed on a strip, would it?

I had the factory housing still with the k&n factory style filter. The stock filter would actually distort and start coming apart with the supercharger.

The k&n replacement worked great when clean but you could really tell a difference when it got dirty. Car practically fell on its faced when you floored it when the filter was dirty.

I could tell a huge difference in performance over the stock filter but since I was basically pulling more air thru it than it was designed for it just didn't hold up so hot.

58mm unit from TPIS. Besides being sexy as hell, well machined and coolant passage delete I am building a 900rwhp car. Figured why not.

Budget $2000
Goal 350 rwhp
The labor won't cost me an arm and a leg a couple hundred bucks. I can do a portion of the work such as remove the heads.

What do you have for transmission and rear end? What about the intake and headers? What about the exhaust system? If all that is done, just the heads is doable for that price. If not, I think $2000 won't buy you that kind of power. 350 RWHP is about 400 at the crank, give or take. Stock is 240? What is the valvetrain like?

The first posting in the thread lists what mods I've made to the engine. Thus the title of the post 52mm throttle body. I'm sure $2,000 will buy a set of AFR heads and if I changed by roller rocker arms from the stock 1.5 to 1.6 I'm sure I could squeeze a bit more horsepower out of my setup. Whether or not I can gain an additional 50 horsepower over my ported 113 heads is the question. I need to get track time right now. I see now how important it is to have that as a solid measure of the cars power.
My rear end is 2:59

I just looked at your first post, and it seems to me with the right heads and cam you should be able to get close to your 400 crank hp goal ..The thing you need to realize is, by running the long tube runner intake your making your car more about torque and less about hp..Your also not going to reach your goal without the right cam so your $2000 ceiling may need to go up..Also the 2:59 gears won't do much for your 1/4 mile times, so you will need to go lower for street or track....I'm not really clear on if you want to make this a track car ,or a street car? .If you want a quick street car then having more torque with a little less hp is a good thing when running from light to light , at the track it's about hp and higher rpms.. .A set of Dart pro 1 heads will run you about $1,600 , AFRs a little more..Then you get a good set of roller rockers and pushrods and you have killed your $2,000 quick....WW

I have Comp Can 08-501-8 which nobody likes on the forum. I chose it because I didn't have to change the ECM chip. The stock chip works great with this mild cam change. The 112 lobe is a power improvement over the stock cam.
I was told 3:07 gears would fit in the rear end.

You willing to change the cam and dyno tune also?

It has roller rocker arms 1.5 <br/>The car has lots of torque which is obvious when you stomp in it. I really have to see what times I run and get an idea based off those results where to go.

Car has a lot of torque to begin with. If the cam is so mild that it is easily adapted by the stock ECM, I can't believe it is going to do that much. 1.5 rockers sound stock to me. If so, the great thing is they reduce a little drivetrain friction. On my 91 F-body, it felt like it has more power with the Superram and headers and exhaust. It wasn't until we had LPE tune it that things woke up and it didn't feel sluggish when you hit the gas, relatively speaking. Without tuning, it was better than stock but with tuning, it was better than without so if the cam can be adapted to by the ECM, how much is it really throwing out?

Enough to catch tire in 1st 2nd and D. I've had lots of motor heads say they are very impressed with the cars performance as is. I can't argue that there is probably more horsepower there and a chip would get it. I wish you could drive the car to see for yourself. I took a stock 1988 C4 for a drive a couple years ago and was shocked at how lame it was compared to my car. Like I said I need to get some track time on it and see where it sits. My guess is high 12 low 13 with street tires.

Buy a GTECH meter and then run the car. They are pretty accurate. Much more accurate than the seat of the pants meter for sure.

Yeah it works with the stock program, meaning it doesn't do much powerwise.

Your exhaust is done, I think that is adequate.

You really need the right heads/cam change, then a chip, and then see where youre at. I think you'll end up needing a little more done to the intake setup, but with the right cam choice and tune you might get lucky. I don't see a 52mm being necessary.

Worry about the gears later.

Without knowing what the condition of the other car is, it would be difficult to tell. I have never used the SOTP dyno since it is hardly worth a damn. I have had a lot of kids tell me that this miracle chip gave them a huge boost. Alas, the track disagrees when we did back to back runs. My F-body felt faster when I removed the exhaust from before the cat. When I did a run before and after, there was not a reliable change.

For comparisons, I prefer the chassis dyno

Vader86 your opinion matters to me. So you are telling me my 08-501-8 didn't do squat for my horsepower gain ? Watch Hol shot videos on a stock chip. It seems that his stroked engine and cam change is producing mucho power on the stock chip. If it was an OBD 2 I would say mods MUST have the tune.
Let me get some track time and go from there. Heads and a better cam after I see what numbers I can get on street tires.
