Default Loose wire in next to my gas cap

Hello everyone,

I am still learning about my new car. Went to put some gas in the car last night and noticed a stray wire next to my gas intake. The insulation is gray in color and it has a copper eye on it. Any ideas?

It sounds like it could be a ground wire. Probably important being next to the gas cap

Maybe from the rear number plate light?

I think the key here is not necessarily the color of the wire (I know it's important but there are more important things this moment) but rather there's an eyelet on the end. That 'typically' is a ground.

Yes I'd go into the schematics and see what it lists. Also ohm the thing and find out where it should go and get it connected correctly. A loose wire around the gas tank is a potential spark generator, which is not good.

Fix it and fix it right.

I think I know where this goes, but want to make sure.

That wire was added after the car left the factory. You'll have to follow it back to its source to see what its purpose is. There's a good chance that it will turn out to be something that should be removed.

Live well,
