Fuel Gauge Problem 1985
Hey all, i have a problem with my 85 vette. I just purchased the car and i suspect the guy lied to me about giving it to me with a full tank. Problem is, i have only test driven the car about 20 miles max, yet the fuel guage has yet to budge. ( Full Green) Tonight on a test run it felt as if it was about to stall (stumbled a few times on heavy acceleration/cornereing) as if it is about out of fuel. I'm yet to get it to the gas station to fill the tank. Curious if anyone else has experieced similar trouble with this guage and if anyone knows what the common cause may be. (Sender, etc.) Also curious if anyone knows if these digital guages work as analog as far as if my sender wire has a fault to ground, will it keep the guage full pinned? Any insight or advice on the more common causes of this type of issue would be greatly appreciated, as for a non-working fuel guage really annoys/irritates me and must be resolved...lol
Thanks in advance all!

The gauge in these cars is a rough estimate at best.
Don't trust them when you get near 2 bars.
Your tank is near empty !!!!!!!
The wiring or sender is in need of attention :smash:

After being filled, mine will show full for many miles then start to drop fast. The stumble could be water in the tank or a clogged fuel filter.

I think most of use have or have had that problem with the fuel gage (GM spelling).
I replaced my sending unit from TaberTouch and it still isn't very linear. I get the most accurate reading when I just turn on the ignition key without starting the engine.
After I start the engine, the level seems to always go up at least two bars - Go Figure.
Chevy wants an arm and a leg for one so I decided to live with mine.

I can drive 75+ miles on mine before I drop the first bar.
If you're getting stumbling problems on a high tank level, it's very possible your fuel pump is going out, or a clogged sock is reducing flow.
My fuel pump wasn't putting out enough flow, which caused hesitation at high rpms and stuttering on acceleration and hard turns with 6 or less gallons in the tank. It finally went out on Sunday, and $60 later, it looks like my fuel related problems are cured.
That fuel guage on the digidash is really inaccurate tho.
