Default Who makes K&N oil filters?

Champion?

Wix?

I bet its one of these two that OEM's the can that K&N puts their sticker on and marks up the price. But how to find out?

If anything, it would be Wix... the K&N can is MUCH stronger (re: thicker) than anything else on the market.

As far as oil filters go, K&N (and most other major brands) are manufactured by a variety of small shops. The base components of the filters ie: paper, are supplied for "assembly" only. My Uncle owns one such shop. He "assembles" the filters and ships them without the canisters. He simply does the forminig and crimping.

Fuel filters he does complete. I'm not as sure about air filters but I think they fall along the same line as oil filters in that the "special" paper is supplied and the product is made to spec.

According to those various oil filter studies, K&N is made by Champion.

Also, Wix is part of Dana.

Construction quality reports I've read suggest YES. Ditto for Wix, Napa Gold, AC/Delco, Mobil One and some other premium grade filters out there. When it comes to oil filtration, you truly do get what you pay for.

Which is why I will never use a FRAM filter again. A few years ago, FRAM changed to much cheaper filter media that resembles thin cardboard.

Here's a link to an oil filter study that was done some years ago.

It's interesting reading but I have not seen an update to this study. Even though most filters are made by only two or three manufacturing companies, some individual brands still have their own specifications for filter media and design.

The mfg info on the box is:
K&N Engineering, Inc
P.O. box 1329
Riverside, CA92502, USA

and
John Street
Warrington, Cheshire WA2 7UB England

So it looks like they are a British company with a dist. or branch in SOCAL.

Fram is ghetto garbage. No domestic or import manufacturer uses them as O.E.M., a scathing rebuke, IMO.

Also, I've recently discovered that Champion makes the Super-tech filters that Wal Mart sells, and they're supposed to be good quality for the low price. Isn't Champion an American company? If so, hard to believe wally world would sell it, but that's another debate altogether...can I get in trouble for hi-jacking my own thread?...

As far as FRAM goes, I've seen that they have a premium one on the shelf for more than double the $ but I wonder if that is even worth it? I know I'm going to get the K&N or stock one from now on.

Don't **** with Fram. They're ghetto garbage. Repeat! Don't **** with Fram. Go with the Wally-World (SuperTech) special, since they're made by Champion.

[QUOTE=Lone Ranger]
Who makes K&N filters? QUOTE]

Why K&N. I couldn't resist.

I've been using the AC Delco's UPF-52 on my LT1. It had a great write up in one of those testing companies. You can find it in the archieves, I think.
