shifting question
2002 C5 s/c coupe. 515rwhp
Maximum rpm is listed as 6000 rpm.
Tire size, 3.42 gears, manual trans equal 185 mph in 5th gear at 6000 rpm.
Maximum torque is listed at 5300 rpm. @ 160 mph in 5th gear.
If you are going for a 200 mph top speed, would you shift from 5th to sixth at maximum torque 160 mph or at maximum rpm at 185 mph.
64 oz. of Torco fuel additive will increase the octane value of 91 octane premium fuel to 102 octane in a 20 gallon tank, so detonation should not be a problem. Tires are new and rated at 186 mph sustained speed. Tires and wheels were balanced yesterday. All is ready for the run except for my courage. I am still working on that.

This might help.. http://f-body.org/gears/left.htm
Select the 98 Fbody M6 and the trans numbers for the M6 gearing will be added to the screen.

By my calculations, if I shift from 5th to sixth at 163 mph, the rpms will drop from 5300 rpm to 3600 rpm.
If I shift from 5th to sixth at 185 mph, the rpms will drop from 6000 rpm to 4000 rpm.
I will need to be able to get to 4400 rpm in sixth gear to reach 201 mph.
That might not be possible to pull to 4400 rpm in sixth gear with only 515 rwhp. We will see.
I think why the ZR1 is able to go to 204 mph with only 542rwhp is because of it's ability to rev to a higher rpm than the 6000 rpm limit for a LS1

do you really think 2.5% of an additive in a 20 gallon tank will boost your fuel octane rating 11 full points?
the additive would have to be more than 540 octane itself which is physically impossble.
be very careful with running a c5 with stock bodywork above 171 mph, the handling gets very unstable...

Do you know from experience that the handling is unstable above 171 mph or is it that some one told you that?

i have driven my c5-z06 at 165 mph and it gets this huge hood bulge because the under hood ram air cannot escape fast enough and the front end begins to lift and float the front tires.
this makes the handling really squirrelyand scary... ;-[

while i respect andy for his s/c installs and tuning, ask him to explain how 'torco' can raise octane by that huge amount and how he tested 'torco' for its octane rating?
it has to be more than 540 octane, which is impossible.
anecdotal stories 'it just makes my s/c cars run better with no detonation' don't count.

As you get older, the things you regret in life are the things you did not do. After today, if everything works like it should, I will have first hand knowledge of what our car will or will not do. Road conditions, wind, stability at 170, 180, 190 etc. will all factor into the final speed.
