Default What to excpect, boosted LS3

Whats up guys? I just came up on a Vortech Si kit for my C5 I planned on having installed soon. I currently have a stock top end, stock bottom end LS3 with a TSP 231/236 114lsa cam, 1 3/4 headers with bullet mufflers dumping under the car. The car puts down around 460rwhp 455rwtq. I was wondering what I can expect with 7-8lbs of boost on 91oct gas. My compression ratio currently is 10.5:1. I would be thrilled to get close to 575-600rwhp and high 10's in the 1/4. Thanks for your input.

What to expect?

Loss of traction, lots of tire smoke and generally, tons more fun!!

As far as power goes, you should, IMO, see your goals.

My stock LS6 made over 500rwhp at about 5psi and around 600rw at about 9.5 - 10psi, so you should hit your target.

There are many more involved enthusiasts here than me, so hopefully they'll chime in.

Good luck and keep us in the loop!

Head over to the C6 section. Lots of LS3s putting the power down over there.

You can even visit Camaro5.com and see what those guys are doing.

The car your working with has essentially all the same driveline so chassis dyno numbers should be comparable.

What you can expect is having $10,000 you didn't plan on spending on your car leave your bank account over the next couple of years.

Boost is addicting.

Ya that's about right, at least for some of us. Heck I have so much I would still like to do I could buy another nice, modded C5!

Your gonna get to your happy zone, maybe a bit more than 600 depending on tune, how that cam does and rpm limit. Getting high tens will require some good tires, and then ya might need to open the bank account.

Is that a manual or auto? Have you upgraded the diff as of yet?

What you can expect is having $XX,000 you didn't plan on spending on your car leave your bank account or pile up on credit cards over the next couple of years.

Boost is addicting.
Modified it a little bit. So true, so true.

To OP you will make 600rwhp easily and maybe 650rwhp depending on how much they push the tune.

Get a clutch and some drag radials (if you don't have them)

Hey guys thanks for the input and opinions. The car is an auto. The trans is built and has a Yank SS 3600. The diff is from a Z06 with micropolished gears. Output shafts are stock tho. A 5pt roll bar is also in the plans, especially if I wanna run the car at the track. Really looking forward to this mod.

YES.. and chances are that account will get hit again even before your foot meets the boost pedal.

Should easily hit your goal, congrats! Be sure to post up the results when they come!

You will be running low 10's with the stalled auto and 600rwhp!

So, does anyone have concerns about Natie's planned boost / power, only 91 octane, no mention of meth, roll cage, and plans to run on the track all with a stock bottom end??

So the amount of boost at 7 to 8lbs isn't really pushing it. Bunch of folks on the C6 pages running whp of around 600 on stock bottom end without issue on a good tune and for some 91 is the best they can get. That being said anything can happen right and good tunes can be a challenge to find in certain areas. As for meth, bunch of people running without it and a lot running with it, with it is safer??? but I don't have it, I also lost a cylinder on my stock block. Would have meth saved the day, we will never know but the tune looked plenty safe.

He is planning on a roll bar so looks to have that covered.

I have 2 LS3 cam only cars running around 8 psi that made 650rw. One with meth and the other 93. Both cars showed no signs of KR and I stopped adding timing at 650. More power was there just didn't want to push the bottom end any harder.

One thing I will be adding as well is an engine oil cooler. Making that much more power around the track im sure will bring oil temps up. I also have already updated the cooling system with a bigger rad and a road racing evans water pump. I run distilled water and water wetter. Car has no ac and the a modded exhaust system for weight savings. The car weighs under 3000lbs as is.
