Underhood Lamp Switch Location
I assume that there is a switch somewhere so that when you open the hood on a 2001 coupe the hood light comes on. Can anyone tell me where this "hood lamp switch" is located?
I'm assuming it's a switch somehow related to the opening of the hood ie: when you close hood the switch turns the hood light off, and when you open the hood, the switch automatically turns the hood light on. I'm further assuming that it isn't a manual switch that I actually have to turn on/off.
Thanks for your assistance. Bill.

i believe that it is a mercury switch , built into the lamp housing. that is the way most of them have been made, therefore there is no separate switch, just another glass tube in line with the lamp.

It's a mercury switch. I'd would think it's in the housing where the bulb is mounted.

Hey,
THANKS MUCH!!! You know, this thought crossed my mind last night, but I thought, "naw, GM wouldn't put it w/ the light, would they?"
Anyway, THANKS!!! for the assistance. Now I can trouble shoot to see if it works, or if I need a new one.
Bill.

Yes, it is a mercury switch integrated into the housing. Should come on when you open the hood about 3/4 of the way.

I agree.
A way to test it is to leave your hood open till the light goes off. Then just wiggle the hood a little, it should come right back on.
Sometimes I wish there was a switch to disable the mercury switch in the light. It keeps turning off and on when working under the hood.

Actually, I'm rebuilding my 2001, and the testing I was referring to was to see if it operated AT ALL on the original hood, which is trashed and will be replaced. I'll try some approximate "non-mounted in car" angles w/ the old hood and a battery charger, but they aren't that expensive, and if any question, its a new one.
