Best way to rust-proof stock rotors?...
We know after market rotors are zinc-coated... how can we protect the stock rotors from rust? What the hell is zinc coating and can it be done by the garage mechanic?
How about some some POR coating? Like what's used with frame restoration projects. How expensive is powdercoating and is it even recommended? Or even just high-temp paint?
Anyone have an idea the best way to protect the stock rotors from rusting?
(ahem... without buying new ones and never getting them wet )
(edit: Hahaha Yeah you smartasses I drive the car! I talking about over time the hats and the edges becoming permanently rust-brown.)

Paint the rotor, the whole thing...and the parts that don't meet with your brake pad will remain painted and not rust. Go to your local parts store, and get some high temp high gloss engine paint. really cheap.

Basically, any part that is not zinc coated, or covered by a hi- temp paint, wilol show rust in just a few minutes of sitting.
The 'domes' of the break rotors can be painted - this will 'cure' ths issue in those areas.
The rotor outer edges can be painted (won't last long), allowing those areas to be rust free.
As others have said, the best method is to drive it (and of course that will entail breaking).
Hope this assists.

I think I'm going to go with hightemp paint to start off. If that doesn't work or look decent I'm sure it can be easily removed.

HI Nyte -
I have had very good luck using Amzoil MP - the same stuff I use on my firearms to prevent them from rusting . (MP stands for Metal Protectant...)
It comes in an aerosol can like WD-40. I remove the wheels - spray the MP on the top-hats and lug areas, then wipe it around.
After that, I use alcohol and a rag to wipe the swept areas of the rotors to prevent fouling the brake pads.
This will keep the rotor looking factory-fresh gray for half a year (and I drive my cars in the rain).
Best Regards -

Just use the high temp paint! VHT or Duplicolor!
I used silver abd painted most of the rotor... then the brake burned off the rest, leaving a perfect line. NO RUST for 3 years!

Just paint the hats and any other part of the rotor that you want (obvously except for the swept area) and it should stay rust free.
