Disable C5 Trunk Release on Convertible?
I have had other convertibles with a trunk release button on the dash. Typically they do not work without the key in the ignition for security. It prevents strangers from walking up to the car when the top is down and popping open your trunk. The Corvette trunk release is always powered which I don't like. I can't leave the top down with my briefcase/laptop in the trunk.
Anyone know how to disable the button on a C5?
thanks

I have a convertible as well, and if I lock the car with the remote, the trunk switch WILL NOT release the trunk lid.
If you have the top down, what's to stop them from just moving the seat forward and reaching in to get your items?
I don't leave any valuables in the car, ever. Top up or top down.

Locking the console doesnt help as the trunk button is on the dash. I haven't tried the truck button after locking the doors with the keyfob. I'll give it a try.
Thanks

Pop the switch module out and unplug it.
The front and back are held together with some little clips.
Take the two haves apart.
Once it's apart you can remove the PCB, but be careful as there are two little rubber contact pads.
Flip the one rubber contact for the trunk switch around and then put it all back together.
Works great, it's what I did.

Again, lets review the OP's question:
First - can the trunk open 'button' be disabled:
Answer is yes, by disconnecting the wiring only.
Next - does that method mean that someone cannot open the truck unless they have a key fob:
Answer is no, all someone needs to do is reach behind the waterfall and 'pull' the emergency trunk release.
Conclusion: unless you are willing to eliminate the emergency release cable behind the waterfall, removing the wiring from the trunk button is somewhat akin to closing the barn door after the horse has already fled.
Solution: if you desire to keep the top of a convertible (C5) down while you are away from the Vett, and you want to keep the trunk somewhat secure - purchase a Window Valet - or keep the windows up. This will afford some protection.

Yep, as described, just locking the doors with the keyfob disables both the trunk and the roof hatch. I guess tucking away the emergency release cable, locking the doors and leaving the rest alone is the best bet.
Thanks for the help.

With the doors locked the trunk will not open. Personally I never leave the vette with its top down. You can't trust people or the weather. My opinion.

The emergency release cable for the trunk is all the way to the rear behind the carpet between the taillights. The cable behind the waterfall is for the convertible hatch.
