How many miles on this car? What options? As you already know - he's about $5K to 6K over what people are paying for 97's. It might be worth the money if it's a very low serial number and it has very low mileage....but quite frankly - you would probably be able to find a 2001 or so coupe, equipped similarly for that money.
Keep us posted, and we'll try to help you as best we can....good luck!
It's going to be kind of tough to give you an opinion, without more info. Maybe a pic or 2 would help, also
It might be worth it, IF it had very low miles and IF it was mechanically perfect and IF it was flawless in appearance. But, more info would definitely help! is it a coupe or a vert? what's the mileage? Do you have access to a complete service history and records? Is the guy selling it the original owner?

Only one body style was available in '97 - targa topped coupe. Convertible came out in 1998 and the FRC in 1999.
Here's mu 2cents worth. I recently went from a C3 to a C5 (2000 6sp cp) I paid 21K the car has 36K and is very nice. The car is light years ahead of C3 technology, ride, performance, quality. That price seems high to me, but if that perticular car appeals to you, price is secondary. Lots of great deals on C5s now. I passed up a 2002 ZO6 with 7,900 miles for $27,500. I thought that was a great deal, just a little more than I wanted to spend.
Not worth it with those miles and a 97' For that kind of $$ you can get a low mileage roadster in the 2000-2002 range with many of the early "bugs" fixed.
Yep ,just checked NADA and top top retail is "only"$20,825,,,and right now nobody is coming close to top dollar!! I found my 2000 FRC book was $23,325,,they were asking $19,900 and got it for $18,600.It was clean with 55,500 mi. I understand many owners are proud of their babies,,but the economy is tough and it's a buyers market.3 to 5K under book is just a good starting point now!!
A car or anything for that matter is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Blue Book or any of the other pricing guides are only that! A guide! You can also check around and see what other vettes are going for in the real world. Usually you get what you pay for. There are a lot of corvettes for sale out there and everyone has their own reason for selling them. I have a 98 Vette, with about 26,000 miles on it. It has been one of the best cars that I've owned. Would I sell it for $22,700. maybe if I had something else in my sights. But, to me it's worth more than that amount. To someone else it may only be worth $17000. I would probably have a hard time finding another vette in the same shape. Sure they are out there, but finding just the right one may be tough. I looked at a lot of very tired Corvettes, before I found the one I have now. So Patriick, a vette is only worth what you are willing to pay for it. Good luck in your search!
I just bought a '98 Coupe for $16.5k that has a couple paint chips from road debris prolly and a small hole in the driver side leather seat, but other than that it's very, very clean. It also has aftermarket exhaust, c06 rims, as well as 80k miles. Not quite as good as the car that your looking at, but if that is worth 6-7thousand $$ to you then go for it. I personally think "I" would be happier buying a little newer vette.
