So...
650hp*0.85 = 552.5hp or
550hp*1.15 = 632.5hp

Which would be more corrector?
Of course, it's just a guestimate..... just wondering which end the 15% was usually figured on.

I would think you would start with engine horsepower since all factory cars are rated this way. this figure times the .85 would be correct. Ed k

Since it was stated that it is a loss from the crank to the rear wheels here is how you calculate it both ways. If you know you have 550 at the rear to get crank you divide the 550 by the .85 which gives you 647

If you have 647 at the crank you multiply by the .85 and this gives you 549.

thats how I have been told numerous times. For automatics it is roughly 20% loss so you would divide by .8, right?

I'm confused with all these numbers...the new zr1 is 638 hp...but when put on a dyno they put down 505 rwhp. So hows that for drivetrain loss.

I've got 520rwhp I just always say it's right around 600 horse. Would that be close enough?

To the OP: You did find yourself a great car. I've never considered badges but can't wait to see the pics.

The first way goes from Crack to RWHP. The second way, you didn't add the original 15% to the RWHP, you added 15% of the RWHP to itself. To go from RWHP to Crank you need to divide the rwhp by 0.85.

550/0.85=647 bhp

I grew up beliving it was the horse behind the steering wheel and NOT the ones under the hood that counts !!!
