Default AC Delco battery purchase

Is the dealer the only place to purchase a Delco battery?

No ... but the dealers can usually give you some kind of discount on price.

You should be able to find an AC Delco battery at places like Sears or some auto parts stores.

I got mine from a local tire chain. You may have to call ahead if they have to order it.......shouldn't take more than a day.

I just bought one at the dealership this morning. I would recommend the professional series AC Delco battery.

I got mine at the Bumper to Bumper parts store next door to where I work. The last one I bought was a 72 month professional series. They claim full replacement up to 60 months and pro rated the final 12.

My dealer matched the price of a local parts store. As stated above many dealers will price match. I also think you will get a fresher battery at a dealer since they turn them over faster.

Look at the upper right area of this page:

http://www.acdelco.com/index.jsp

You can enter your zip and select batteries from the drop-down list.

I believe the "Professional" series carry a 50-month free-replacement warranty and the rest of 6 or 7 year as pro-rated. That's the best in the business.

Do yourself a favor and DONT buy an AC Delco battery.Ive had 2 AC Delco batteries where one of the lugs pulled out of the battery and made a huge mess, had to replace everything battery acid touched. With one of the last AC Delco batteries went bad, took it back to the parts place and they wanted to hold the battery for 24 hours and put it on a charger.Thats great but I need a battery now,got a loaner?I will never buy another AC Delco battery again. When the battery in my ZR-1 needs to be replaced Ill look into a Diehard or something comparable.

I replaced with AC DELCO Professional 78V6YR for $78.95.The 75 seem too small.
The V Vintage series does not have the handle molded into the side case and has a nicer appearance.

I prefer the gel coat optima batteries, with no acid, since the computer wiring harness is so close to the battery. I heard too many nightmare stories about acid leaking and wiring costing 1500 to replace. I have those batteries in both my vets now and with no regret at 165.00 each.

For the sake of those who do not know....

The last "leaker" AC Delco battery was made in 2000. All 2001-2003 C5s had AC DElco AGM batteries installed at the factory. Unfortunately, those batteries lasted a good long time only if you kept them charged, either with a battery maintainer or by driving the car a sufficient distance at least once per week. My 2001 AC Delco AGM battery was 7 years old when I replaced it, but I drive my C5 three times per week. Optima Red Tops are very similar to the old AGM AC Delco in that they normally will last if kept properly charged.

In 2004, Johnson Controls became the new manufacturer of AC Delco batteries and because of the need for AGMs to be constantly charged, GM returned to non-AGM batteries, this time with a much stronger case and a full replacement warranty of 50 months.

Thus, the old leaking batteries from 97-00 were history and you are not likely to see many batteries of this vintage in C5s. The much beefier Professional series AC Delco has proven itself to be leak-free for many years now, so no, the sky is not falling - it is safe to buy most non-AGM batteries once again.

Correction...........not all 2003's had AGM batteries. My original battery was a standard AC Delco battery which went dead after about a week I had the car. Replaced it with an Exide Orbital AGM battery. Excellent battery, by the way. I just did not want to take a chance with possible leaks from standard lead-acid batteries.

Default AC Delco battery purchase

AGM Batteries and Lithium Ion are the future

The OEM AC Delco is a pig at 33lbs and does not belong in a performance car,
My AGM can be installed on it's head and will never leak in my engine Bay or on any of my wiring harnesses and only weighs 18lbs !

East Penn, Or Deka make most the Batteries sold in this country,

They are just Re-badged or Re-Labeled for retail sales

Save you some $$$$

The best AGM battery out there is the Sears Platinum, but at $180 and enough weight to be a boat anchor, it's not for everyone.

Lithium Ion batteries may be the wave of the future, but they are not here yet as replacement batteries for lead-acid versions.

In the meantime, lead acid batteries are reliable and long-lasting.

Believe me, Optimas do have acid in them. They can also leak, but not as bad as a standard lead acid battery ... I had an Optima that leaked. Do a search, and you'll find the thread.
