That's an RPO Zora and his team came up with as a special performance package in '63. RPO = Regular Production Option. Like the Z28 RPO, it doesn't stand for anything specific - it's the alphanumeric designation that becomes a moniker due to the popularity of the model.

I might get torched for being wrong, but I'm pretty sure it was the option code in 1963 for the corvette racing/track option.

As already stated, that was the RPO code in 1963 of which there 199 produced that year. However it is not an RPO for the C5 generation, but a model designation.

Z06 is the RPO for the 1963 racing/performance package. As stated for the C5 and C6, it's a model code. The RPO on my Commemorative Edition Z06 was RPO Z16, thus you will see the CE Z06 referred to as a Z16.
RPO Z16 is used for the current Grand Sport, as it was also for the 1996 Grand Sports.

Here's one of my favorite pictures, showing my Z06/Z16 next to a Big Tank Z06. (even less than 199 of them around)
