C5 Vette stroker kit. need suggestions
Hello, I have a 1998 C5 Corvette. Right now it's bone stock besides having SLP Loudmouth exhaust. I was hoping to get somewhere around 450-500 RWHP. I was mostly looking at superchargers (ECS SC2000) but today someone recommended i go with a stroker kit. I was wondering about pricing.. the cheaper/est way to go about it and what exactly i should go with. Any response would be helpful. Thanks.

First of all, where are you located? We can point you to shops that are closeby with that little bit of information.

The only thing is... the motor has 115k miles on it... so idk if it could take the boost? idk.. im not the most knowledgeable person on this stuff lol. but it would be nice to have a lot less headaches.. which a supercharger would give me a lot of lol.

I'm not a supercharger guy so with that said, I've had a 383 Stroker and loved it. It has so much low end torque it's a thrill to drive and with the right heads it's a monster. Mine was in a 72 Camaro with Dart Pro 1 heads and it was like the hottest car in our car club. Here's a pic of it.

Stroker guy here.
My Vengeance-built 418 has plenty of power and is completely streetable. If you can do the work yourself you'll save a bundle. You'll need good heads, a decent cam, an intake, headers, and various other things which I'm sure you know.

Where should i look for pricing? I'd like a general overview of the price before everything. I would not do it myself. anyone have a general idea of how much it would run me?

A 383 stroker using your existing block is the most cost effective way to get into stroker mode. Using the cleaned up stock bore and a 4inch rotating assembly. You'll still want heads. CNC'd 243's are a good cost effective head or you can go aftermarket castings. Again the cost goes up. Add clutch, UD balancer, cam, etc, etc, etc. You'll probably want 1 7/8 LT's unless you already have them. If you have 1 3/4 you can sell them to defer some of the cost.
Make sure you go into this with your eyes and wallet open. Do it right the first time with a good builder and good parts. Get a good tuner when it's done and have a hell of a lot of fun. If not careful, you'll very easily find yourself at speeds you can't post on CF.
I think a realistic budget to do a 403/418 is around $10k installed and tuned. The 383 probably $8k or so.

No matter which one you choose first, you'll want the other before long.
IMO, I would build a forged stroker first. That way you have the bottom end for the SC down the road.
Also IMO, I would yank that 98 LS1, sell it, buy a LQ9 or LQ4 6.0 from a truck and stroke that.

Oh I agree, but if you are building your car for more power, you will need to improve the suspension to handle the power. You can select componets and adjust for the added weight.

It's still weight. No magic suspension is going to change that. Personally, I like the challenge of making great average power NA. FI to me is sort of like having a 4x4 that you take off road 5% of the time. A lot to carry around when seldom used.

If you do not want headaches, leave it stock. Any mod you make has the potential to creat a lot of headaches. and as to it taking a stroker to get good low end TQ, I'm putting 500 rwtq down at 2k rpm.
