Default Electric Water Pump HP gain?

Has anyone installed a electric water pump and dyno before/after?
I am running 520/484 N/A and wondering how much more I could pull out of it.

not a "power making" mod, but usual pick up is 3-5 HP

Yes, its a "power freeing" mod, I was just hoping it would free up more power on a modified engine vs. stock.

I picked up 4 rwhp just boltong it on, and another 6 rwhp from additional tuning due to lower water temps.

I was recently talking to Slowhawk about the elec pumps, they are worth the 4-8rwhp on the dyno

they really have an advantage when drag racing, in the staging lanes, flip the switch, the motor is cooled within minutes

That is where they shine, but too bad they don't flow well enough to handle big HP or if you want to road race later on.

I wouldn't swap to an electric, I hear from several people that have used them and they say they are good for Drag Racing but other than that they either can't keep up or fail in regular street applications. Stay with what you have. You can find the HP somewhere else.

The biggest deal with them is to take the belt completly off when you make a run which will net you an additional 14rwhp verified on the dyno. It is a way to just wring out all the power on a 1/4 track and have the oppertunity of cooling the car a lot easier and faster.

They seem to work fine down here in 100+ degree weather and worked great in stop and go traffic at cruizing the coast. Have a friend that has had his on for well over 2 years now on two different cars and it still works great.

If you don't drag race I wouldn't even consider one though.

Most likely gains would be 5-6 HP....

No problems with an EWP on the street at all....my car actually ran cooler in traffic because the pump is always going 100% even when idling in traffic (versus a mechanical which is now turning very slow).

The higher the RPM you plan on turning the engine the greater the gains.

The only type of racing/driving I wouldn't consider/advise getting one is road racing where the RPM's are always high and alot of heat is being generated. At those typical engine speeds (3500-redline) the mechanical pumps move more coolant and do a better job.

They are also excellent for dyno testing because you wont get heat soak creeping into the picture....just keep the big fans on in front of the radiator, turn on the EWP, and watch the coolant temps drop. You can always test at the same coolant temp (better for evaluating small changes) and do so in a third of the time or less.

In short....GO FOR IT

Happy Holidays everyone...

Tony

I never plan on road racing, just street driving and occasional Drag Racing. If I picked up an extra 8 HP and a few lbs of Tq I would be happy.
