What kind of plastic is the rear bumper made of?
Ok, I have acquired a 2 inch crack all the way through on my rear bumper. Since I like to do things my self, ( never had a good experience with someone else doing the work. ) I would like to try my hand at plastic welding. Shipping charges on the rear bumper are almost as much and the bumper cover itself.
What kind of plastic is the rear bumper cover made of??? Most of the different plastics require that you tackle this problem differently. Since the crack is all the way through, I can see that the material is either a real dark gray or a lite black.
Do any of you know for sure what it is????

I believe it's a form of urethane. If you go to an auto body supply store they should have kit with two products you mix together. You can vee out the crack with a grinder to get better strength and adhesion and even reinforce it with screen cloth from the back if necessary. I did this on a C4 that I put through a fence many years ago and it worked great. It sands easy too. Some auto body supply stores can get repaired plastic bumpers that you can exchange your damaged one for. Make sure that wherever you apply the repair compound to you roughen it up and get all the paint and primer ground off.
