Default Alignment after Rack Replacement?

I am having the Steering Rack replaced tomorrow (again). Is it necessary to have the car re-aligned afterwards?

You need to reset the toe.

The rest of the settings can be left alone.

If you get an Active Handling warming up and 1286 code you will have to realign the steering wheel. Very common problem after steering rack removal

Only if the tech is careless and allows the steering wheel to be rotated.

Got the rack replaced today. Now the car is very difficult to steer right or left at low speed - like almost no "power" steering. Any ideas what might be wrong? No codes. Plenty of fluid. Steering overall feels very tight.

Magnasteer connector not connected? Air? I'd be taking it right on back.

air in the system!! raise the frt wheels off the ground and turn the wheels left to right--lock to lock 20-30 times, making sure there is enough fluid in the res. Then start the car and turn it again 20-30 time--hopefully all the air gets out. Lower the car--see if it helps if not repeat.

Definately worth a shot.

This is something the installer should have done, not the customer.

Well, the dealership had only one solution to offer and that was to replace the steering rack for the fourth time? They said if there was air in the system that it would probably be squealing - so they did not accept that diagnosis?

It does seem to be slightly better today, but still very tight. I am getting "some" power assist - just not as much as before.

I will try tuning the wheel back and forth tomorrow as suggested.
