Default SS Brake Line Length Question - Important

I just got a set of Goodridge SS G-Stop brake lines. I remember a thread on the forum lately where some one was asking about the line length - where do the short and longer ones go (front/rear?)

All four lines in my kit are the same length. Is this correct? Has anyone ever bought a set where the lines were all the same length?

Goodridge says they should be different lengths - front & rear - with the rear lines being about 2 inches shorter. Part number 12206 on the kit is correct for 97-04 Corvette & Z06. Vendor says they don't open the packaging and that is the way they came from Goodridge.

I don't think I should install something ans critical as brake lines if it isn't the correct product.

I'm not sure about the lengths, but I would expect the fronts might be longer so that you can turn the steering wheel and have enough hose to follow. Have you tried comparing the lengths to the stock lines?

Default Question Answered

Originally someone at Goodridge told me the rear lines would be about two inches shorter and there were threads about where the short ones go. The set I have are almost the same length.

A build engineer at Goodridge just told me that the C5 brake lines for the rear have been lengthened so the same part No. would work on a C5 coupe or vert and could also be installed in the Z06. In the past, the shorter lines would not clear the the air ducts to the brakes in the back.

That's interesting; I can't see how the lines would be any different for a 'vert vs. coupe, or how they would possibly interfere with the Z06 ducts, which don't come anywhere near the spindle.

I have the Goodridge lines with LAPD fittings, and I wish my rears had a bit more length for when the suspension is at full droop. When you install the fronts, you need to put a sort of S-bend into them. Have someone circulate the steering back and forth to make sure the lines don't rub the A-arms, and inspect them again for clearance with the car on the ground.

The vert & coupe have always been the same. Its the rear air ducts on the Z06 that are in the way and need a little more length on the line. The guy didn't say how they were in the way and as I don't have a Z06 didn't ask. Rather than have two part numbers they just lengthed rear lines in the C5 kit and now use it for all models.

I just looked back at my pics and the Z06 duct extends farther back than I had remembered, so I guess there is some logic.

BTW- Have you thought about putting on speed bleeders? I did mine at the same time as the lines which is convenient, and makes the bleed a one-man job.

I just installed a set of Goodridge lines and this is how I installed them. First thing my OEM lines definetly had slightly longer lines (about an inch longer) in the rear. Therefore I put the slightly longer Goodridge pair of lines in the rear. Seemed like a no brainer to me.
