Default replaced battery?

i have just replaced the battery that was in my 2001. it had a 78H-6yr battery in it. every place i taked with said the stock battery would be a 75-6yr. the 1997 to 2000 had 78h-6yr in them. is there any reason to have the 78h-6yr? i put the stock 75-6yr in it. the cold cranking amps were a bit less.

It really seems to be hit or miss with the Optima. A friend of mine had one in his car for 6 years then sold the car to his friend 4 years ago, and it is still good.

I think the key with Optima is the car must be driven frequently . Trickle chargers do no work on the Opitma's gel core

Since I only drive once a month on the track. for two days

My red top optima lasted 3 years, I replaced it with another Optima. I think my first one went bad for the very reason mentioned above. I only drive once every two weeks or so. I've always been of the opinion that a gel battery was necessary in the C5 because of the proximity to the computer? Can a C5 owner get away with a standard acid battery?

Last year I replaced my Battery with a Costco BCI size 75 with 700 cold cranking amps

It has plenty of juice for my Z06.

I paid $68.99 for it.

It comes with a 36 month free replacement warranty and concurrent 100 month pro-rated warranty.

How can you go wrong????

Don't know who makes these batteries for Costco/Kirkland but whoever it is, they make a quality battery.

If I'm not mistaken.........

The leaking problem was with the delco specific batteries 97-00

00-02 were delco gel (Many problems holding charge)

The 02 and newer delco non gel batteries do not have a problem with leaking and neither do qaulity built batteries from other manufactures today.

Default 78 should have more reserve than a 75 larger case and plates

Have a 78 Energizer from Sam's in my 98. 78 was original in 97-00. Think GM just got cheaper in 01 shrinking the battery. Think a 78 will fit in later C5s.

Update: The larger 78 series battery fits perfect in the later 01-04 C5 battery tray, which came with the 75 series from GM. My 03Z now has a Diehard Gold 78 series battery. The 75 series Diehard Gold was tested at Sears and found to be "not good." It was date coded 09/07, so almost 4 yrs old.

These vehicles need to be driven!!
