I'm pretty sure LS2 heads, are LS6 heads, so yes you most likely need a tune, because your compression should go up.

I'm not sure about the rest, but I would think the valve covers, and brackets would be the same.

Someone else will know for sure.

LS2 heads are LS6 heads without the special valves. Direct swap but you will need to make sure and measure for pushrods and retune for sure. Make sure they check the duty cycle of the injectors and don't forget to upgrade the springs as well while you are in there.

Why go to all the trouble for a stock casting? The time and expense aren't worth the gains.

Always check the pushrods. Springs will depend on cam. 243 heads are an outstanding upgrade to stock LS1. Even better if you get them worked over by companies such as Advanced Induction.

at least have a port and polish done. The gains will be minimal on an outright swap.

If you are going through the trouble of putting on heads don't waste your time with LS2 heads. Also, it will be a good time to swap the cam since you'll have access to the lifters with the heads off. No, you don't need to replace the lifters with a new cam, but you would be stupid not to throw the LS7 lifters in while you had the motor torn apart.

LS2 heads are the same as 243 heads which for years this very forum has been saying are one best upgrades to a LS1 car. You wont see huge gains from a direct swap but a port and polish and a milling to bump CR will do well depending on what the hp goal is.

I went with a cam that gives around 35-40 advertised whp (according to Texasspeed) and had my LS2 heads fully P&P and gained 83whp on the dyno. So the heads themselves gave as much, or even more power than the cam gave.

Sure, ls6 heads and cam will make the motor perform like an LS6. Drop a few extra bucks on some better aftermarket heads if you want something that performs better than a LS6. On the cheap, get a set of dart Pro 1s ported, they will outperform ported LS6 heads.
