Default Twin Tanks and Additive Concentration

I have a non-functioning fuel gauge and want to give Techroline a shot at clearing it up. I would like to use it at its highest concentration but don't feel comfortable driving more than 200 miles - 0 gauge, check gauges and low fuel warnings the whole way. This usually takes about 12 gallons - in city, romping around.

I have two concerns that relate to how the fuel is moved from one tank to another.

1. If I am only putting fuel in when it isn't even half empty, will all the additive remain just in one tank? - how does this balancing system work? - can this over-concentration have a bad effect?

2. How do I know if this transfer system is working properly?

Found this http://www.z06vette.com/forums/f5/ho...m-works-60056/

Still wonder about the concentration of the additive.

Thanks for the information.

Seems like dirty laundry to me but here are my codes: (I have a big cam and I believe the MAS was tuned out of the loop as I replaced it with no change in those codes):

PCM P0103HC/P0463HC
BCM B0502HC/B0507HC/B2482HC
HVAC B0361H/B0367HC/B0441H/B0446HC

So, I read the capacity of my '04 is 18 gallons (each side at 9 gallons?), so if I can put 12 in, does that mean both sides are transferring?

Thanks a lot. Will be driving a fair bit this 3-day weekend and will follow up here as to how the big bottle of Techron I have waiting works. Thanks again.

When I ran out of gas due to a clogged jet pump, it took about 12 gallons to fill. The reason that this is more tham 1/2 is that the crossover tube is not all the way at the top.

The PCM will also throw a code regarding right fuel sensor performance (don't remeber the code number) and drive the fuel gauge to zero (after a few hundred miles from full) when it senses that the right tank is not emptying first as it should. This behavior can be confused with typical fuel sender contamination, which is why I ran out of gas.

The transfer from right to left, with excess returning to right via the crossover tube, should also help mix the techron if it is added with higher tank levels.

Success! After tanking up with a large bottle of Techron added, my gas gauge started working in about 10 minutes or so. It took about a hundred miles of it working less and less intermittently, but it was so steady after that I drove it to a quarter of a tank at 301 miles before tanking up again with 13.5 gallons to get full - added a smaller bottle for one more kick and will use Chevron from now on - was using Exxon exclusively. bought the car with the gas gauge not working and am so glad it doesn't need an actual repair.

Now to get the remote filler-door working...
