Default changing rearend withan A4

Can I replace the whole rearend say out of a Z06 with a 3.42 into a auto car. I have the 2.73 gears and is a pig out of the hole. I was quoted $1600 to change it to 3.90 gears. They said with my case that was my only option. It's cheaper just to switch the whole rearend.

Yes you can. I changed the whole carrier when I went from 2:73 to 3:42.

Did it change the car a lot? Is it faster off the line?

I went from a 2:73 to 3:42 to 3:73 - Much faster off of the line, with a best 60' of 1.36.

IF and When you change out your rearend gears, you will also have to have a tuner tune your PCM so you maintain the correct A4 Shift points.

While you have the differential off the vehicle, at a MINIMUM, change the output seals.

Here are a couple post for your reading enjoyment..

Also, in the A4 there is an adapter plate pressed into the front side of the differential that you need to transfer to the new differential housing. You can see the plate with its seal in the pic below.
