Default ls2 build

So I have a few questions about a future build.

My goal is to build an lsx tt from the block up. Then drop it into a classic muscle car either chevelle or gto 67. I am going to start with just the block for now and make it a long term project.

My question is I'm leaning towards an ls2 build since I don't really need 1000hp+. 600-700hp is what I think is good for me. That's why I landed on the ls2 and not an ls3 or lq9 iron. I'm not looking to race it much. Maybe a track day or two just for kicks. Does an ls2 sound about right or should I just got for the ls3 ls7 or lq9?

Next question is what Is the best way to go about this? Buy a new block? Buy a used engine? Buy just the used block? Buy a wrecked car and pull the engine? I don't think I would use many of the stock parts. Plus if I did need parts the lsx are always for sale. Looking to save money and not over spend for parts I don't need.

What do you guys think? Any suggestion would be appreciated!

600-700hp is done all the time on stock LS2's..

But if you don't want to have to worry about it, you'd be better off with forged pistons/rods. Stock crank is fine.

I've heard good and bad from buying new blocks.. some have found some pretty bad machine work on them the way they come.

What's an LS2 out of a wrecked car cost?

I love the feel of the turbos

Good to know about the new blocks cause I was considering it.

I see used engines for 3500 to 4k or so... new block is 1200 I don't think that includes a crank even

Can't beat the feeling of turbos for sure

Hmm 3500-4000 was more than I was thinking they'd go for. Hell I'll sell you mine for less than that That would really give me an excuse to build a new engine.

Yeah $1200 is just the bare block.. no crank.

built engines break all the time, just because you spent a lot on parts doesn't mean they are indestructible... if you are only shooting for 6-700 and on a budget I would just go with a stock longblock, add a cam and meth, make sure to get a good tune (probably the most important part), and run it that way... if it blows you can just swap in another longblock... lots of people are using 5.3s out of trucks which are real cheap but an ls1/2/3/6 or a 6.0 truck motor would get the job done as well but the newer the engine the higher the cost usually

I haven't even really thought about it.. it is stock but has had a supercharger the last few thousand miles. I'm not done tuning it so it hasn't even been WOT yet since it was installed

It has high miles. Over 100K, so I wasn't sure if you'd still be interesting knowing that

No issues though
