DIY cat and crossover replacement?
In my 02 Z06, at least one of my stock cats is going bad--got the P0420 code and a rattle--but I'm afraid I must have working cats for a while longer. If I replace my stock cats and my stock h-pipe at the same time with aftermarket high-flow cats and an x-pipe, is it just a simple bolt-on swap? No welding or cutting or anything challenging for a guy who can barely tie his shoes? (Okay, I'm not that bad.)
If so... What do I need? High flow cats, an x-pipe from a reputable brand, and that's all? Do I need extra lengths of pipe to make things fit? Do I need to salvage any of the stock pipes (e.g., in front of the cats)? What cats do you recommend for maximum flow but still pass emissions inspection? Or am I going to need a shop to install/weld the cats after all?
Thanks, all!
if you find a setup with flange to flange then it should bolt in with simple hand tools like this one:
