Default Entry/Exit Ease, Issues, Aids

I'm a bit older than some of you (and apparently a but younger than many) with no huge mobility issues, but getting out if the driver's seat is a bit of a chore. I'm 6'3" and 200 lbs, so not huge.

Getting in the car is not an issue, getting out is.

Basically, I could use a bit of a boost. (C-130 pilots who used RATO will understand).
Currently, I lightly grab the lower corner of the seat back. I'm worried about damaging the seat cover long term.
I have the seat set up to travel all the way back when the door is open. I don't know if raising the seat would help...or whether I can raise the seat without my head hitting the headliner.

I was thinking I could use some sort if a handle there.

Most cars have a door latch loop there, that I could grab, not so the C8.
There were a couple of threads here on this in 2022, one poster recommended a device they sell online that fits into the door latch hoop.
It was pretty clear that guy didn't own a C8 since it wouldn't work because of the rather obvious lack of the latch loop.

I was thinking of making something like those canes with a horizontal handle and four feet...cut it to length of 10-14" (if you were to produce it commercially, the length would have to be adjustable). The key would be the "feet" would have to fold flush...my idea would be to store it between the seat and door while driving.

On my fairly low Mercedes coupe, and my wife's newer Lexus...(which the sloping windscreen and low roof make exiting problematic for someone my height) there is a pivot handle mounted above the door. Likewise, my high SUV has a handle built into the A-pillar.

Any other ideas out there?

The vendor who sells those form fitting engine vent blocks to keep water out of the engine bay is introducing a new product.
Looks like it would work, but I'm kind of balking at the price. ($349).
https://amoracorvettelady.com/shop/ols/products/ease-in

Any other suggestions aside from working on strengthening my legs to do squat thrusts (which I am working on )?

Yeah, the C8 is backward from earlier Corvettes on the door latch and the striker loop.
On my C5, the striker loop is on the body, door opening frame, and I have a handle that fits right into that striker loop, and I can use it to lever myself out of the car.
Although, I have trained myself how to get out of my car now, and haven't used the handle in months, but I do still carry it with me.
Same handle can be used as a hammer to break glass and has a blade to cut the seatbelt for an emergency exit situation.
But, no, it won't work as a handle for the C8.

Yes, there is a removable handle that is made for this purpose that can be used when needed and removed when not needed.

It is generic. We got one on Amazon for my father

I just read more in your comments and I think the one I mentioned works with the typing door loop. Sorry!

Not sure this addresses your issue, but for me, I just lock my left elbow and grab the door sill just above where it starts to tilt upward from the base with my left hand and cantilever my body up, left my left leg out of the car and then roll my weight onto my left arm staying above the bottom seat bolster and continue the roll out. Works like a charm. No need for any grab handles or any undue wear and tear on the seat.

The way I do it is to sit down with both legs outside the sill and while lifting my legs rotate into the vehicle, reverse it to exit. The seat cover below, which is basically a towel, protects the seat quite well but has to be held in place while doing the entry move.

The author of that message admitted in his next post it would not work.

I sit down into the seat using my right hand on the bottom door sill to steady myself (sometimes I use my left hand on the seat or sill if the door can't be opened fully) leaving my feet outside the car. Then I rotate and bring my feet into the car. You have to be able to bend your knees enough to do this. This minimize rubbing on the bolsters. I've had tight sports cars most of my life and this is the way I've always done it to minimize seat bolster wear.

For getting out I reverse the procedure using my hands to help lift me up out of the seat if necessary.

I have my seat exit position set as far back and as high as possible and the steering wheel fully raised.

For your home, what about building an elevated surface to park the car on, so it's higher off the ground when existing/entering at home? Just some wooden ramps to drive up on in the garage thus making it easier to get in and out at home.

I realize this wouldn't help when not at home ... But if you find a solution like the 4 leg cane with a horizontal bar, at least you wouldn't need to use it at home.

I'm not that old and need to use the rotate legs out, then get up method to exit the car. It looks a bit like an old man maneuver but it looks a hell of a lot worse if I try to get out of the car without doing it that way, especially after a longer drive. I'm glad the memory seat (exit) function actually works reliably in these cars, because every little bit helps.

On the easy exit seat setting, make sure to have the seat go back and lift up, helps give you some height to make it easier to get out.

Exit at a right angle. But as we all know, if you can’t open the door all of the way, it’s very difficult. Where you park sometimes can be very important.

OK, I am older, 84, and heavier, but considerably shorter. If you can get both legs out first and the door wide open, it works best.
