C5 A/C belt and pulley parts sourcing
OK, I spent a ton of time yesterday looking online and on this board for some definitive, single source solution for getting the parts for belt and pulley swaps. I found nothing specific to what I want to know, but I did find lots of threads that hover over the topic without giving me what I need.
So, maybe shame on me, but I'm going to ask anyway. If there's a link you can point me to, great. Call me a dork and send me on my way. Here are my questions:
1) A/C belt. Which brand? From where do you source them? Is one brand squeaky, and another not?
I found a Goodyear belt on Amazon for $12. I also called a dealer (Van's in Scottsdale). They didn't know what brand they had, and it was $85.
2) A/C idler/tensioner pulleys. From where do you source them?
I pulled the two pulleys for the A/C off yesterday (posted in another thread) for inspection, and they are worn. They also look identical. Van Chevrolet wants to sell just the pulley for $65, and the other, with the tensioner, for $149. To me this seems ludicrous to spend the additional money, if in fact they are the same pulley, and that the tensioner is in fact in good shape.
If this yields the results I hope, and there is in fact no "one-stop" knowlege source for this, maybe we can add this information to one of the threads stuck to the top of this forum.
Thanks,
Scott

If you are having to replace the AC idler and tensioner you probably want to do the main drive as well. Typically, when these go out the others are not far behind.
As someone mentioned above Rockauto is a good place to find everything. I personally did all my belts and pulleys with the Gates replacements from Rockauto years ago.

The gates non hydraulic is what I used. Gates only list two tensioners both non hydraulic. One is for the ac other is for the accessories drive. I have used them both and they work flawlessly.
