Default Going to put the Electrochromic Mirror into my 2000 C5

Hello all.. I've got the new mirror (VetteNuts) and new connector (RockAuto) so I'm ready to go ahead and make the swap. Yes, I have the retrofit link and will definitely be using it, but I was wondering if anyone has done this and if so has any advice.

Before starting I already have 2 questions
1. How do i get the mirror off (i don't see any torx screw!) and
2. The instructions say to pull all wires out of the new connector but why not leave them in and soldier directly to the new wires while still in the connector?

Anyway... This forum has been the best thing short of owning the C5 since buying her. Thanks Everyone.

I have no idea if you are trying to install one inside the car or on the driver side outside.

I can answer your other question. Why cut, solder, and heat shrink when you can just remove wires and reinsert in a connector? Do you not know how simple it is to remove terminals from a connector?

Yes. Its an interior mirror. I just assumed it needed to be done as per the instructions:

http://www.c5forum.com/diy/electro_mirror.php

But yes! I agree, it should be a simple swap, but I've discovered not everything is simple when working on my C5. I will definitely attempt the simple swap before resorting to the splice method.

Thanks for your input. I was really hoping someone who has done the swap would chime in, maybe confirming what you said. Thanks again.

There's a spring clip that needs to be pried away from the windshield, while pushing up on the mirror, to release it. This pic shows the clip at the bottom of the mirror.

I used a nylon pry bar that I trimmed to fit the clip.

Removing terminals from a connector to place them into another one is easy.

I have not looked at everything to see if you have to "create" a new circuit, thus causing the need to solder.

Take a look at an LMC5 ad in eBay and watch the video on removing terminals.

If you need any schematic let me know. There are 3 that cover the Electrochromatic mirror. Have not looked at 2000 but I have all the years.

There is a feed from the inside mirror to activate the driver Electrochromatic outside mirror which you should not have. The light sensor is on the inside mirror to control both.

Not at home to tell you which one that wire is.

I don't now if the wiring is there, probably is. Would not recommend getting the outside mirror to match since they all seem to fail. Mine did and I replaced it with the standard one. If you found one they are NOT cheap. Would never buy used.

If you have any wiring issues we can get it resolved for you.
