Default New Tires guidance?

Could use some advice with following...

Have 2001 Coupe, original owner(senior) 29K miles. Have original
tires, last week noticed inside edge of front/passenger tire was badly worn.
All other tires are very evenly worn with a little wear time remaining.

I'm torn with just replacing the two front tires with the original
GY Eagle Run Flats OR replacing all the tires. If I went with replacement
of all 4 tires what is recommended. I can go with original
GY Eagles Run Flats(which last a long time) or something else.

Guidance appreciated....

Bob

I'd replace them all. Regardless of mileage, I think they're overdue.

Everyone says the Michelin run flats are much better than Goodyear.

I'm running Pilot Sport A/S 3 (non-run flat). One of them caught a nail but it took about 12 hours to go flat. Went to a Casino one night and came out the next morning with a flat tire. I inflated it with my portable compressor, and drove back to discount tire. No big deal. I'm not worried about getting stranded.

You have to be honest with your self...

1. WHAT do you want out of your car? Daily DRIVER, Week end pleaser, track HPDE.

2. When do you drive it? Summer only? Fair weather only? ALL SEASONS!

Go to TIRE RACK Put in your vehicle info search for tires. You will get MANY options.

Use that data to shop for the best price,

GET a four wheel alignment once you have the new tires.

READ THE REVIEWS ANS GET A COUPLE OF TIRE CANDIATES.

Post your choices and get some opinions on how people like them.

Make your purchase.

ENJOY!!

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! REPLACE ALL FOUR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!

Thanks to "all" for the the responses...as suggested I'm convinced in replacing all 4 tires. Answer to the question about usage is as follows:
1. Its a garage queen, never been driven in rain. As stated I'm original
owner, 29k miles. I use only as joy ride car in nice weather. Have two other daily drivers.

2. I'm settling in on following tire choices:

- Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 ZP (Run Flat)
- Goodyear Eagle GS EMT (Run Flat) replacement to oem tire
- Michelin Pilot Sport Super Sport (non run flat)

Been reading so many reviews that highly endorse non-runflat on the C5. I'm getting more comfortable with the idea, since I rarely use this car for long distance drives. Most use being local.

So of the choices above what do you guys lean towards. if you believe there are better choices i'm open to the thought. I figures the above were reputable and quality alternatives.

Get a good 4-wheel alignment and then get the Pilot Super Sport, 100% without any doubt.

I regularly take my car hours from home without worrying about no run flats and no roadside assistance plan. The chance of a flat are really low on the list of things I'm concerned about.

I always switch to a non run flat and all I do is purchase a plug kit and a very small compressor,

Those tires are a great choioce,

Bill

Default 2001 Coupe, TPMS Question

Forgot to also ask about what I do with the TPMS when I get the new tires. I have a 2001 Coupe, what maintenance is involved with the TPMS when replacing the tires? Do they have to be replaced or is there a bettery in these things that gets replaced?

If you're using the original TPMS its ok to stick with them but just like the 14 year old tires, these are also 14 years old and rest assured, the batteries inside them are getting close to EOL. If not too much of a strain on the pocketbook, I'd have those replaced as well.

Do they have batteries that can be replaced, or must the entire unit have to be replaced?

People do change batteries but you have to cut them open to do it. The batteries aren't supposed to be changed.

I think around $40-$50 each for ones from GM.

For tires like what was suggested, Michelin Pilot SS or Continental DW's would be your very good choice. I have both on two of my cars and they're excellent. As for TPMS sensors I've have this brand, http://www.titantpms.com/tpms/chevro...re-Sensors-SET and haven't had any problems.

Thanks very much for the reply. Especially the link for tpms source. Since I'm now "tuned" to these dam things since recent decision to buy tires, do I need to be concerned with battery capacity of replacement. My current ones are now 15years old, car has 29k miles garage kept. From your experience will these new ones be nearly as good? Again, thanks for the guidance. Bob

Yes these will be great, had mine on for two years now and never a problem. Previous owner didn't have any in there and after doing some homework I found these and it's been good to go since the new tires were installed. No need to be concerned.

I'd think you'll get at least another 10 yrs of worry free TPMS driving. Maybe even another 15!! Battery capacity is not an option that I'm aware of.

Not sure what meant by "battery capacity not and option"? Are you suggesting my current (15year old) TPMS will last ALLOT longer. Or are you answering earlier question about longevity of replacement TPMS?

I was responding to your message about battery capacity. It appeared you might be asking if you could get different size batteries in the sensors. New sensors should give you many more years of worry free driving and not having to be concerned about any TMPS issues.

No, wasn't my question, I'm aware they're sealed units, question was meant towards whether new TPMS has as good a battery as oem did? Spirit of the question is it worth buying OEM from GM, or take advantage of the good info(Link) passed along by ZigZag. He's had good success thus far. I just don't want to buy something that saves money and then needs replacement ever 5 years. Be costly and a pia. If I drove allot then no big deal, I'd be replacing tires anyway. This car is very lightly used so tires last long time. Garaged is heated, tires treated never have dry rot issues.

Really sorry to have made this a saga, never considered this tpms stuff when getting ready to buy the tires. Allot easier without this crap. Thanks for hanging in on this...
