Default lowered on stock bolts results (need in put)

ok today i lowered my 01 c5z on stock bolts but didnt work out to good

here is the results after driving the car about 4 miles on a bumpy road measurements taken from center of fenders

before .......... after
LF: 27 3/8"........27 1/8"
RF: 27 1/16"........26 7/8"
LR: 27 3/4"........27 3/8"
RR: 28 1/4"........27 5/8"

from info here in the forum I thought it would drop about 1"? front bolts are all the way up then backed off 1/4 turn, the rears are just showing 2 threads left on each bolt

Can you post a profile picture of the car? Unless you're the original owner, it's possible a previous owner already lowered it a bit.

Good luck... GUSTO

i only put about a total of 15 miles on my car after I lowered it, the ride is a little more bumpy feels like its handling a little better but it didnt drop much? I slammed brakes a couple times to help it settle traveled about 4 miles on a bumpy road still really didnt go down much?

currently after 15 miles
before .......... after
LF: 27 3/8"........27"
RF: 27 1/16"........26 7/8"
LR: 27 3/4"........27.5"
RR: 28 1/4"........27.5"

i guess maybe a few more miles and it will settle? for the drop amount i got vs the ride not worth it if it dont drop any more i'm doing back to stock

I lowered this all the way down on stock bolts...

I also changed shocks to Bilstein HD's. I don't think that should make a difference however.

Good luck... GUSTO

you should make your measurements from the frame and use the fenders as a rough reference.

Let us know, I'd liketo compare to my two C6's

You need to be patient, drive it for a couple weeks of regular driving. I noticed it gradually getting lower and I'm glad I waited long enough before I had an alignment done.

Stroker, I've been a fan of Bilsteins since purchasing a new '85 Corvette and discovering it came with them. I now have them on all of my Corvettes. Since I like to autocross I'm more of a proponent of stiffer suspensions, so I find the Heavy Duty's to be just fine. The ride is not nearly as stiff as my '85 with Z-51 and I think that is terrific. The HD's are recommended for cars with lowered suspension.

Good luck... GUSTO

i'll give it a little while for it to settle in then

SG Lou, your car has the stance i'm after but your running 18's & 19's so that might have helped fill in the fender wells

this was my last c5z i bought it lowered from the 3rd owner and it was lowered before he bought it so he didnt know if it was stock bolts or aftermarket, i'm trying to get close to this

I had to go with the west coast corvette lowering kit to get my car low enough to my likings. Dropping it on stock bolts was just not enough, although it did lower it down about an inch. I also run bilstein sport shocks.

Is it me, or does the first pic show the car looking a little high? Seems to be a lot of air over the wheels.

Capt Mike, will do but i didn't take a before from the frame do you know what stock is?

I have Bilstein's on two Vettes, they are great. Esp the C4 Vert with Z51 sus.

I'll measure my 98 Vert IPC (lowered) and 04 ZO6 FRC Le Mans (not lowered) , and let you know the results. I have a drive on Rack, so it doesn't disturb the ride height.

Maybe others have the frame to ground measurements, and might share.

Unfortunately some Gas shocks are charged enough to slightly raise a Car. My Old 70's Mercedes Hardtop has this problem. I don't want to swap the shocks (will not be enough), so it's swap the coil springs. It's a lot of work, but She looks like a 4WD...

I have marks (for measurements) on my '56 Chevy 210 Coupe so I can check the ride height, and prob will fab some blocks to set under her. I have air bags F & R , but the rear is out of wack. I suspect that one of the ream main springs does not match the other side. The are only two leafs in the rear to stabilize the diffy housing and get me home should one of the air bags Pop.

With the Corvette FRC mono filament leaf springs, You should never have a spring rate prob. But I'll let you know my measurement "Spot", numbers and take photos. I'm curious myself. Give me a day or so...

Michael

Actually, no I am not.
Those are aftermarket wheels, C6 style but in a C5 Z06 size / width
17 x 9.5 & 18 x 10.5

Some things to consider after lowering your C5..... Your ALIGNMENT (CAMBER) front & rear will be significantly off after you lower the car. Recommend getting it realigned AFTER you get it to where you like it.

Your suspension travel will be significantly less and you will BOTTOM OUT the suspension a LOT! (read that as possibly loosing control when you bottom out on extreme handling situations.)

Make sure that you engineer in some Front to Rear RAKE ANGLE (front lower than the rear)
