2000 Steering wheel position sensor
I am getting codes 1286 and 1287, so it looks like I need to replace the
steering wheel position sensor on my 2000. I see the posts on how to do it, but I need
to find one. The posts from 2012 say the parts is no longer made, Is that still true? Anyone have the correct part number, and a possible place to get one for a 2000 ?
Thanks!

Those are no longer being made new for the 97-2000 cars. You might be able to find a nos part but I believe taking a chance on a used one is your only choice. Good luck.

Sadly there are a number of parts that are no longer being produced for the C5, especially the early models, and this is just one of them.

Keep your eyes open here and on ebay. I bought a nos sensor a year or so ago for a little over $200. The part was on ebay but I received a heads-up about the item here on the classifieds. They don't come up often but they are out there.

he likely didnt center it because I do not see the pin. I still may get it unless I find something better.

We just got in a good used SWPS that will fit your car. We send them out already centered for installation and backed by a 90 day warranty. They are $395 shipped.
Thanks,
Marc

Well, yesterday was my LUCKY day. I went to the local dealer in my small town and
told the Vette mechanic my problem and asked about checking the car with a Tech ll.
He told me he might have a steering sensor for a 2000 in his tool box. Low and behold,
he had a brand new sensor for my car. $150 for the sensor and $299 to install it.
I am a happy camper :-)

If I had a 2000 I would be buying the one from Marc to have a spare.
I have a 2001 but I have many NOS and reman spares for parts and modules. I have everything that has gone extinct on the 97-00 cars. Great insurance and when I croak the car will come with everything needed to keep it going as designed.

I've replaced mine this year - sounds like I should have gone to vettenuts.
I paid $400 for a used one - when I got it there wasn't an alignment pin installed. The steering shaft has two flat sides on it. I installed it such that it went on with the least amount of rotation with the steering wheel pointed straight and then before reconnecting the shaft in front of the firewall checked the voltage coming out to center it. Turns out I've got it installed 180 degrees out. I could set it up so that the steering wheel is upside down when going straight, but have decided to not futz with it until I can get it off of the shaft and rotate the sensor 180 degrees and try again.

Also there's the fact that not all 97-2000 cars had Active Handling either. My'99 doesn't. Glad now it doesn't.........
